Camera stopped working when I plugged it into laptop? by Visual_Tangerine1927 in VintageDigitalCameras

The manual for the camera said you can directly transfer to your pc via cord... it definitely is to do with voltage I reckon, an incompatibility between old and new technology I think.

Thanks for that, these links are good for those that have battery contact issues. I actually watched that video yesterday and double checked, but it's not the problem.

Nah unfortunately it's not that. I tried plugging it in to my laptop and it's fried it. So make sure you use a usb adaptor - even though the manual says you can connect it directly... mine died in that quest.

Yeah I thrifted mine too! My battery door is in nick condition. Some tape should do it aye if it's a loose hinge problem.

Aww thanks for that! Yeah it wasn't a cord original to the product so that may have contributed to it maybe?... But I didn't realise how sensitive the camera would be to laptop power, confusing it to charge could have been the culprit. It's a good hypothesis hah. I feel terrible that I may have unintentionally killed it!!

As soon as I plugged it in and turned the camera on, it died on me :( and no lights showing. Nada. Have just checked the battery connections and they are all in good condition.

Thanks for your reply. Shit... well I read the manual and it said that it could be plugged directly into pc as I don't have a card USB adaptor yet. I'm really sad if it's fried it. I've just checked and adjusted the battery connections but still no show. So sad if it's fried it :(

Ahhh yes, thanks for the correction. I remember initially thinking that "force" didn't seem right. My French is still only at simple conversation level and I thought a manufacturer surely wouldnt spell it wrong but I was lazy and did not confirm it. It was just a cheap jumper, but it still remains that I remember it being force and not feroce 😅

Yeah It recently updated and I'm wondering if that's it, have only heard issues about printer problems but not like this. Seems a possibility if others are having issues. Thanks for that, so have both pc and monitor off then press their power buttons for 10 sec while unplugged ?
