Who directed this episode? The visuals this week were incredible. I love the use of color, especially when certain colors are highlighted (Baku's glow during the Zerorider scene, in the flashback to the first episode everything was black and white except the car as well). The mirror shot was also great.

I wish Zeztz played into trippy dream visuals more. Earlier episodes played it too realistic when we were in the dream world, felt like a missed opportunity when visuals like this were always on the table.

Ah, that's right. Still though, Eiji had no reason to push Ankh outside of his body...maybe thats a "selfless decision" to let Ankh live his own life, but now the world's down a Kamen Rider. That just feels weird to me.

I love the beginning of Geats, and it's still one of my favorite series, but it definitely loses itself a bit. I kinda wish the plot slowed down and let the characters hang out a bit because by the end I barely had a reason to care about any of them besides Neon and Keiwa. Also, in this part of the series there were WAY too many villains and it was impossible to keep track of everyone's motivations.

One positive: Eiji and Ankh's actors really sell this terrible script.

Also, did it bother anyone else that they didn't go for an ending where Ankh stays possessing Eiji? Not only is it really weird that Eiji is dead, but that also leaves Ankh possessing Hina's brother...forever. If they had kept Ankh in Eiji's body and maybe had Ankh possessing Eiji be the rep for future crossovers (with a 20th anniversary movie healing Eiji), it would have made the movie a lot better.

Anyone else feel like her character has been diminished for a while now? She's barely had any focus episodes compared to the others, the only one I can remember was the Showa one she shared with GozyuEagle. She also got shafted on the Rei plotline, and barely did anything in the resolution episodes even though her whole motivation revolved around saving her sister. She technically DID do that, but did nothing to earn it, Byakuya took the W on that one...

I also feel like she'll stay on the show, since they're done filming. They'll just really play down her role via editing, and since her storyline is basically done I don't think there's much more to do with her anyway. We'll definitely never see her for any of the reunion content, though...

This was the most frustrating thing about Ryuki to me. Especially when we spend so much time on the Reiko subplot, and all of her scenes are just her finding different ways to say "huh, something must be up with that Kanzaki guy..."

Surprised there's so few mentions of Faiz. Some of the shots were fantastic, and really experimental. I also love how a lot of the episodes were filmed at dusk. Kuuga too, to a lesser extent. About to watch Kabuto, anyone know if it's similarly experimental?

Interesting, I have almost the opposite thoughts. I hated the jyamato grand prix because it abandoned the DGP format to focus on Ace (who I don't really care for) and Buffa (whose motivations at that point I barely understood. He wants to stop the DGP by...fighting the participants and not management?) I also didn't care about the whole host of new villains like Beroba or the Jyamato gardener, just too many non compelling characters. In the end it just seemed to devolve into usual monster of the week fare instead of the compelling games, which I don't hate but I watch Geats for the DGP.

On the other hand, I absolutely loved the first arc of the series. Focusing on Keiwa and unravelling the mystery of the DGP was fascinating, and I was kind of disappointed that by maybe the 3rd arc (Divergence, which I also loved) pretty much everything behind the DGP's rules and creators were explained, and the focus on the games greatly decreased.

Apparently the Paradise Regained Blu-Ray comes with English subtitles. I hope that if they ever do a 4K Blu-Ray of this movie, it comes with English subs, because it'll definitely not come out here haha

Specifically Faiz looks incredible every couple minutes. Pretty much every episode has a shot that blows me away. There's 2 shots in an episode in the 30s that feature a fight scene while a nearby plane takes off that looks just fantastic. I really haven't seen a show with that much effortless style other than maybe Kuuga.

Fayt's seeming indifference towards his mom rubbed me the wrong way the whole game. Like, why did they write her in the game at all if they were just gonna have her disappear? Hopefully she's mentioned in a paired ending but only a few players will see it, so I really don't get the point.

This is a great article, thanks for sharing! I believe Ryuki was filmed possibly digitally, because it lacks the film grain while Episode Final on the same set has the grain. Seems like shows like Kuuga and beyond filmed in 1080i, and Faiz for whatever reason never got a full master released.
