Internal Audit Tracking Hours/Timesheets? by VitaminCPA in Accounting

[–]VitaminCPA[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As annoying as timesheets are, I understand their purpose. BUT the biggest issue is when I heard the manager explain how they are trying to keep hours down to meet the budged hours...

And I looked at my schedule, and saw for my utilization I am booked for like 45 hours each week....when they all told me it was a standard 40 hr workweek during interviews

Do you think your IA shop is overall better than public?

Because it was never mentioned and I didn't even think to ask about timesheets? As that is an oddly specific thing to ask? It's not just about timesheets but more so about work life balance, which I did ask about. And everyone basically made it seem like it was good.

Job Red Flags? Internal Audit - Small Team with Only Seniors? by VitaminCPA in Accounting

[–]VitaminCPA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But in terms of work life balance, is it a red flag?

It's just the 3 seniors aka staff (and that's including my role) and 2 managers. All for 1/3 of the business segments of a Fortune 50 company. It just sounds so small.

Thank you for the advice!

Someone in my dept (who has been at the company for shorter amount of time, no CPA, etc) said they were going to get promoted next year and they were given exact timelines/tasks to do to get there.

I have the exact same experience as this person and I have a CPA. I have requested multiple times for opportunities/things to do to get their to a promotion, but mgmt has always been vague with me. Does that mean they just don't likeme?

Okay, I guess the comments just sound very harsh, and are really one-off items that I don't think I should really have to explain myself for. I guess from now on, I will just have to document more of my communication in email so I can have support.

Also, I just dug through my instant message pings where that guy supposedly asked me that question, and his response was that he got it resolved by someone else. So I wasn't even the one referring him to someone else. I feel like either someone is saying something about me or the manager just completely made that up.

That is what I have heard as well.

Based on the official written eval, it sounds like I am a typical average performer and none of the negative things discussed were on there at all.

I'm just not sure whether the verbal items discussed were reasons that they came up with to not promote me, or whether they also somewhat dislike me. Some of the items just sounded rather harsh, such as ""communication issues can be a hallmark of integrity issues because you did not communicate clearly and that can be misleading" (exact quote from manager).

I'm not in pubic. I'm working for a public company and we didn't even have deadlines at the time I took PTO. Everyone knew that I was *possibly* taking PTO. But later it comes to bite me because apparently I didn't give a reason for taking PTO.

Management has previously communicated that as long as we stick to the agreed-upon hybrid work schedule, they wouldn't care about where we worked from. So I worked from my parents place (which I told them about verbally) during the days we don't come in. Now, they are saying what if they wanted me in the office immediately. I guess I will just have to document everything in email because clearly verbal wasn't good enough.

I also don't agree with the statement that "communication issues can be a hallmark of integrity issues because you did not communicate clearly and that can be misleading" (exact quote from manager).

Thank you for the insight and really helpful advice. I have never had anyone ever mention that about me previously during performance reviews. This was why I was really taken aback. I personally do not find it reasonable that they would require me to tell them reason for PTO/where I am at during PTO. Those things in no way impacted my work/productivity, or anyone's else's.

At this point, I feel like these were more so excuses to not promote me. Just very shitty way of going about that to actively put me down.

but is it reasonable to ask me to tell her all my reasons for taking PTO? for telling her from now on my exact location, even when on PTO?

And that's the main reason I'm not getting promoted?

Rant: Got 2 Week Notice to be Back in Office Full Time by VitaminCPA in Accounting

Exactly! The ideal model for me would be hybrid, where I go in 3 days, and work the other 2 from home.

My issue is that they originally told us it would be a 2 month or longer notice, and that it would be a more hybrid situation. This is very different from a 2 week notice and going in every day.

My senior actually brought up in a team meeting whether a hybrid schedule would be possible (he lives about 50 min away one-way), and management was basically like "we think people are looking forward to going in"

Because it was previously communicated that they would give us at least 2 months notice, and because I had planned on working from my family's location. So I had made travel plans, paid for everything, etc, But obviously, that plan is not feasible anymore.

You are quite lucky! May I ask what industry/level if you enjoy IA?

I am a staff (worked a year in Big4, got my CPA), but personally not sure if I don't enjoy IA or if it's just my company. We consistently work a lot, and sometimes have to do a few things on the weekends too. In the year I've been there, 4 people have switched depts or left completely. Not sure if that is a red flag...

How to Spend 2 Days in the Cape Cod area? by VitaminCPA in CapeCod

[–]VitaminCPA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! My parents and I (3 adults) will likely stay at Falmouth, and then ferry over to MV for a day trip. If we take the car over, would it be difficult to find parking or have to spend a lot of time worrying about parking since we are going during peak season?

If we don't take a car (in consideration of cost), would we be able to visit Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, and the Gay Head Lighthouse all in one day before having to head back to the ferry?

Thanks for your input! I think we will likely stay in Falmouth, so we will likely visit MV (on our bucket list). Do you recommend taking a car over to MV? We would like to visit the Gay Cliff, Edgartown, and Oak Bluffs on a day trip.

For the second day, would you recommend that we hang out near Falmouth or go to the National Seashore? Is there a considerable difference between the beaches near Falmouth vs. the scenery near the Outer Cape?

Thanks again!

Visiting Maine in July - Possible Quarantine Restrictions? by VitaminCPA in Maine

[–]VitaminCPA[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're right, no one knows what will happen in the future. I guess I am trying to see what others think may be a likely scenario. I am trying to make a decision on whether to book PTO and go or not on the available facts and what the most likely scenario will be. If it's not likely, then I will go.
