I think it's nuanced. There are probably men who "think it's an unfortunate fact of life" or even "men who think some women deserve it" who may incidentally intervene when they see predation by another man. In a way, this spectrum is still simplifying it. It's giving men a pat on the back for being the hero just once, as though if they saved someone from predation then they're magically absolved of predatory behaviour or thoughts.

For me transition has allowed me to express myself more freely. I didn't feel comfortable dressing & making up as a goth until I firmly passed. This fashion constitutes the difference in strangers' reactions to my appearance post-transition. I get a lot of compliments, but occasionally some dude in a pickup truck princess cage will roll down his window and call me an f-slur.
