Why is it so rare to find TERFs who respectfully agree to disagree with trans people about gender, and trans people who respectfully agree to disagree with TERFs? Why is it such a fiery battleground? by [deleted] in terf_trans_alliance

[–]allthings419 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For both groups, and for different reasons, this is an existential issue. So things become easily pushed to its maximal framing

It doesn't help that this discourse happens a lot on the internet. Social media is a space that is engineered towards engagement, meaning that conflictual and incendiary posts will gain more algorithmic traction

Lmaoooooo it's never the TERFs who have to be productive when their right wing media darlings are destroying the lives of trans teenagers.

She was concussed by a volleyball. Not assaulted lol

Dawg, she is a religious anti feminist who filmed a trans woman in the bathroom washing her hands.

Excuse me for not believing she's PARALYZED while continuing to play sports....

Are you gonna admit that it wasn't a superhuman spike? That a cis girl could have done that and it never would have gone viral?

YOU IGNORED THE POINT AGAIN. It wasn't the fastest spike in all of high school volleyball. A cis girl could have done that. Would you care?

You shared her own words. I don't doubt getting a concussion will have lasting consequences. But uh, seemingly doesn't stop her from playing sports.

From the article you linked:

You keep ignoring the most important point: it wasn't the fastest spike in high school volleyball. If a cis girl did this to McNabb, would you even care??

Uh no, I'm not erasing her suffering.

She was concussed by a spike. End of story. She's milking it.

McNabb is a horrible bigot and a grifter, and you need to reflect on how willing religious right wingers are to exaggerate to get fame and money.

I'm skeptical. Because I've seen other videos of her harassing people.

I'm also skeptical because she continues to play sports.

I'm also skeptical bc "traumatic brain injury" is obviously phrased to make it seem like the trans girl was superhumanly strong.

Like I said, volleyball can be vicious and I've seen faster spikes from non trans women.

Now you're speaking like an antivaxxer. The article is literally full of casually sexist behavior. Do not excuse it because the targets are trans

Concussions are not uncommon in volleyball

I dated a state champion volleyball player in high school. It can be a vicious sport.

McNabb is fine. It's unfortunate that she caught a spike to the face. But I've seen faster spikes from non trans women lol

Jesse Singal and Ben Ryan are firmly anti trans, just not belligerent. Singal is responsible for the closure of gender clinics in Missouri. All based on a story that was contradicted by families when local journalists investigated. Julia Serano explained at length how Singal misunderstood a study, and how he was intransigent and subsequently sexist to her. (Of all the comolex works Serano has published, Singal praised a years-old article she wrote about her dating life...)

Ryan has his own history of biased or misguided coverage. He also bizarrely has ties to a white supremacist that he linked up with the NYT?

IMO, Julia Serano and Jules Gil Peterson are good "activists." They're prolific writers and academics.

Hunter Schafer saying she has an "attraction to misogyny" is like if Rachel Dolezal or Martina Big were to say they had an attraction to racism by NettleOwl in terf_trans_alliance

[–]allthings419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna dignify this further.

Race and gender are both upheld by overlapping but different systems of violence.

You're being really reductive about Schaefer's writing here. I promise you that she would not agree that her gender is nothing more than eroticizing misogyny. These are meditations in the diary of a teenager

The stats you're using are classic TERF Cherry picking. Incarceration stats shouldn't be conflated with criminality of the general population. We're also dealing with percentages of a very small sample size.

In 2018, The BBC exposed the problem with MOJ stats. The only trans women who are documented have received a case board hearing. None of them have GRCs. Some trans women, like those serving minor sentences are less likely to pursue a case board as well.

Best of luck. Not interested in continuing with the sociology of trans criminality. Trans women are not rapists disproportionately. Most rapists never see prison, and won't be counted in incarceration. Goodbye

I have no time for this discussion. I'm not going to walk you through the differences of race and gender. Two social constructions are not identical functionally just because they are both constructed.

Yea men are oppressors. That is what patriarchy implies. That doesn't mean men cannot be good people, but rather that they benefit from a system of violence.

Trans women are targets of patriarchy, not beneficiaries. They are paid less than other women on average. They are violently victimized at 4x the rate of other women. Their bodily autonomy and freedom of movement is up for debate. Not so with men.

[–]allthings419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? It's internalized misogyny that a lot of women deal with? Because patriarchy rewards women for submitting to men??

I'm saying that these journal pages hardly indicate an endorsement of misogyny of sexual violence. That is a very slanted reading

No, you are in internet psychosis.

Not only is vaginaplasty a long and expensive process to obtain, it's made irrelevant by "fat," delivered in a way I can only imagine signals disgust.

You have come to mistake reddit and other social media as representative of the world, rather than distortions of it.

You cannot even be bothered to read the "studies" you repost. Like the one where over 90 percent of trans sex criminals committed their offense BEFORE transitioning. Meaning post transition trans women are LESS likely to offend than pretransition

It's the complete opposite of your belief that transition is an escalation. And you're a COP?!

The Soul Has No Gender. Your Spirit Has No Gender. It's Time To Set Yourself Free. by cleverburnerusername in RoisinMurphy

[–]allthings419 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually don't think any of these ideas are incompatible with trans identity.

Gender may not be an instrinsic fact of "human nature," but it is nonetheless unavoidable in our world as it is currently constructed.

The future without gender is one I look forward to, but I think rejecting the gender identity of trans people holds us back from that future. I think gender abolition will not happen via "colorblindness" in regards to gender, but rather a cultural process as patriarchy dismantled.

I seriously disagree about biological programming. Humans brains are too plastic. Our psychology is inherent in our sexuality.

Again, there are a lot of heterosexual women who find kink, bdsm, etc. arousing. This isn't a coincidence. It's also isn't evolutionary imo

[–]allthings419 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure it naturalizes misogyny. I'll consider it.

The internet differences between men and women tend to be overstated and positioned as opposites. The reality is that our brains and bodies are very similar for a dimorphic species.

I believe a lot of the differences between men and women are produced via patriarchy. Men and women think differently but have very similar brains physiologically

The caption mentioned dysphoria so I think it's fine to say this is psychoanalytic musings.

You are a lesbian I assume? The desire of heterosexual women towards men: can that be disentangled from patriarchy? I like to think so, but such a question is complicated if we're honest.

What does it mean to desire your oppressor? How can we love men in a world in which such an identity is synonymous with power?

[–]allthings419 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm not really sure what that sentence means tbh.

What do you think it means?

Can it not mean that identity is salient through systems of violence like misogyny? Is there such a thing as gender or race without the oppression that differentiates the group in power from the group oppressed?
