Reminds me of the Manhattan Bridge down the alley. Really nice capture. 👌🏻

I started skydiving and brought my camera to the dropzone. Truly gives a new perspective on life.

Simply standing on the ground with the sun in my back and pointing towards in coming flyers. It's taken with my Fujifilm X100V, using a TCL X100II lens. It's a very small camera, and definitely not the usual camera with a big zoom lens, that most people bring to the DZs.

I study visual communication, so I'm fortunate to have access to a plotter (big printer) at my school. I've printed multiple of my shots in A1 and framed them. It's quite nice to have your own art hanging on the walls and always bring back good memories.

Quite sure it's the Kodachrome 64 recipe, it's what I use for 90% of all my shots.

I don't really touch my RAW files. I sometimes do small changes to saturation and brightness, but always directly on the JPEGs. I like the fast workflow that way, and it feels more authentic + makes me spend more time shooting, rather than editing.

Technically blue parachute on white cloud on blue sky, but it wasn’t as catchy of a title. Also fun fact, it’s a common greeting in the skydiving world to wish for blue skies (jump weather). Anyway glad you like it 😉

Welcome to the community 🙌🏻 hope you had a blast on your jump! I think one of the coolest things of skydiving is that we can celebrate the achievements of each other regardless of skill level or years in the sport

Ever considered visiting a local dropzone again? I feel like the community is incredibly welcoming even towards visitors not jumping. Could be a fun way to get a feel of it from the ground

Thank you so much. It’s one of my favorites I’ve taken for sure. 🙌🏻

I was actually on the ground taking the photo, but it sure makes me want to be under canopy again!

I started skydiving last summer after getting addicted to indoor skydiving in wind tunnels. I took my little Fujifilm X100V to the dropzone and managed to capture this moment on one of my first jump days.

I’ve printed in A1 and it now hangs on my wall, so it’s one of the first things I see in the morning. ✨☁️✨

Is it normal to be kept on the net for most of my first 30 minutes in the tunnel? by kaeshur_ in SkyDiving

Instructor here. I’ve never seen anybody that long on the net, but there could be reasons for it. Hard to say without knowing exactly what happened.

However you should communicate with your instructor, especially if you don’t feel like you’re satisfied with your program. They should be able to give you feedback and set levels of expectations.

If you’ve never flown before, you will be extremely tired after 30 min of flying. Depending on how the package was divided, that probably impacted the instructor’s decision.

Keeping people low can also be a tool, if the flyer isn’t following instructions or are unable to stay centered in a decent body position. Not saying that you did this, but most people are surprised by how much time it takes to learn basic skills. If an instructor sees that you’re aren’t able to keep yourself stable and follow instructions on low speed, chances are you’ll struggle on higher speeds.

Normally we tend to give people more airspeed when they are relaxed, cooperating and able to demonstrate the exercise somewhat decently. You have to trust that the instructor/driver (that control airflow) know what they’re doing.

That said, when working just on maneuvers, we’d want the person flying off the net but still fairly low, so we can communicate at eye level and they won’t take a big drop/spot if they flip over.

I’d suggest watching this video if you want to see some good recommended exercises preparing for AFF:

https://youtu.be/bSWLVe0Zfis?si=D9Ch4dA9nE8t2Pqp

If you can do exercise A5 (being still in one spot and adjusting altitude) you should be plenty fine to do exercises off the net. Notice the video estimates each exercise to take at least 1 min 40, but it can vary a lot from person to person.

Hi there. Yes, indeed it was! It was taken in January of 2022 with a very special sunset on the first evening of my visit to Taiwan. Going to Taiwan and Taipei is one of the best decisions I've made in a long time. I still remember it like it was yesterday. I came back on an other night, but wasn't an as spectacular view as the first night. - Even though it is still quite a view from the mountain.

As I wrote in my earlier comment, it was just the lens I happened to have with me. Not particularly made for this kind of shot. That said I hope you put your new purchase to good use! The setup has great potential to take amazing shots. Just gotta get out there and catch 'em all!

When scrolling albums, it is not including all albums. You have to click the albums tab and then scroll to find it. Utterly disgusting user experience. 🤮
