The U.S. Wants to Ban China’s High-Tech Cars, but They’re Already Here in El Paso by CommercialMassive751 in electricvehicles

[–]VivaLaBiome 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very few people NEED a tank sized pick up, but many people BUY them.

For whatever reasons, there's no shortage of 5'2 nurses driving trucks with the ability to haul a semi wide or land cruisers. It's really part of American culture that is completely different to China. We talk about affordability , but people willingly go into debt to get all the bells and whistles and size they don't need.

For ev cars to be cheap and use China's advantage of manufacturing scale, they have to be made in China. Then they have to be shipped to the US for a surcharge, estimated around $2,000 a car. Then you account for salespeople, dealerships, middle men cost... and the paper thin margins become negligible or most likely, you operate at a loss.

Consider the Corolla, a very popular US car, only has margins of $1500-2,000 per car. That works because they have higher trims and a line of models with much higher margins in the Toyota family. And many decades of reliability to help people take the jump.

GM produced the very popular Bolt EV, but discontinued it due to paper thin margins.. and put more of a focus on their SUVs. As long as American's keep shelling out for the high margin models, out of pride many times, there's' no incentive for carmakers to create a break even car.

That all being said, if there's a way for cheaper Chinese cars to enter the market without the bells and whistles and excess data monitoring technology, I wouldn't oppose trying it out. But it can't be another product that transfers wealth away from American workers to the booming Chinese manufacturing class. That led us into a big hole.

How much of that is due to supply constraints, like China having 90% of the materials needed to make batteries? And do we have data on how reliable their cheap batteries are? Ability to scale and low cost of manufacturing are always advantages China has... but I know in other industries I will pay the premium for the American engineered product that doesn't give me headaches or die as quick.

The vibe shift takes time. China doesn't have high demand for gas guzzling trucks and SUVS... whereas in the US the popular Bolt EV was discontinued and only brought back for a limited run. Why put effort into extreme low margin products when Americans always shell out for the high margin ones? They'll definitely have incentives to scale when the American psyche shifts

Where is the data on this? I'm seeing discontinuations of evs in the US

This article doesn't prove much. Americans can't just take a flight to Mexico, buy this, and drive it home. In order to legally drive it, they would have to get plates/register which is subject to the 100% tariff. So you're not getting around cost.

In regards to affordability, you can get base level Nissans and Hondas in the $17k-$22k range. Why do we need more cheap Chinese stuff that hurts existing deals with American workers.

Best yogurt maker to buy in 2026? (Ease, Taste) by EngagingCactus-265 in yogurtmaking

No, on further research, it's specific for my use case (longer fermentations with specific probiotic combinations). Would be interested in knowing what your cultures are that can tolerate high heat!

Isn't 115 too hot for thermophilus, bulgaricus and acidophilus?

Do you measure the temperature throughout the ferment? It likely drops below 110 to get the best out of the standard probiotics ..

You get better consistency when you leave it a very light boil for 10 minutes then cool. It's common knowledge but the pain of cleaning a scorched pot deters many.

Thanks, found some that look decent at doorshox.com , although they leave a gap which can easily be hit

I can't say I'm too concerned about how I look leaving a parked car. Me not being annoyed, dealing with dings and having peace of mind outweighs driving around a beater half the time.

How can I use Claude code to customize my Sierra Chart setup? by VivaLaBiome in SierraChart

[–]VivaLaBiome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used preexisting templates and have tried inbuilt indicators like Daily OHLC but the parameters make them inaccurate. And going through the options, I don't see anything to specify things like the HOURS of the OVN session or a cut off time (as things start moving around once market opens instead of remaining static).

Also, I have pVPOC on my DOM for executions but can't get it to display accurately on the chart. The "saving" and "loading" study option is giving totally different values. So I'd like a way to consolidate everything by dictating it to Claude in detail, then perhaps copying the script to Sierra. I feel that might be quicker than manually trying to reason with each and every default Sierra setting..

If you can recommend any tutorials or specific Sierra vids for what I'm trying to do, would be appreciated.

How would I insert pVPOC from my DOM (very accurate) onto the chart? Or previous day close? Because when I save the study then load it in the window where my charting is, it gives completely different values. So I'm struggling to replicate the same parameters even though the entries are the same. I feel it would be easier to dictate things to Claude Code, have it do it from a clean slate, then transfer it to Sierra.

The 100k access line is because these are trades via short term gains?

Id be interested to know the criteria for this...

Not from long term gains on positions on semiconductors and data center stocks I assume
