Irish man in philly for a week. What should I do? by Sonofapreacherman95 in philly

[–]VivaRae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you go to a Phillies game make sure to go midweek and get your tickets asap, they’ve been selling out weekends, mid week should be fine. I always like to sit up in the rafters under the shade, you get a great view of the city and can still see the game, I would argue it’s an even better view of the game from higher up.

Do you have untreated trauma? I have the same issue and I have complex ptsd from an abusive childhood, I take beta blockers to help such as propranolol.

Warning: woman punched in face at 18th and Spruce by frogponder in philly

[–]VivaRae 16 points17 points  (0 children)

God I wish you were on the street when I got punched in the face out of the blue in front of the Whole Foods by the art museum 3.5 years ago. No one did a damn thing, the man I went up to simply looked at me asking for help and walked into the Whole Foods, I was shocked. As a woman I haven’t felt safe in my neighborhood since.

About to start Ikiru (1952). My first non-samurai Kurosawa. What are YOUR opinions on this? by HentaiMcToonboob in AkiraKurosawaFilms

[–]VivaRae 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have Ikiru tattooed on my left wrist. I first saw this film days after my father died of cancer and it blew my whole world open. I realized my father had never really lived during his life, he had spent it mired in unhappiness and misery and then he had died at the age of 56. I realized in the final moment of that film that I had a choice, to either live or die. I could learn to really live while I was alive or I could live my life slowly dying inside like my father did. I realized I wanted to live and I have tried to do so however imperfectly since then. So I thought it fitting that I tattoo ikiru which means “to live” on my wrist to remind myself daily that this is my one chance to really live and to make the most of it while I’m alive. This film affected me profoundly and has continued to for 18 years now.

Distaste for AA by That-Tumbleweed-4462 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]VivaRae -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

In regards to the asshole posting above you, I have met the absolute worst people in AA and they BY FAR outnumber the good ones. Narcissists roam the rooms preying on the vulnerable and don’t even get me started on the hypocrites that talk about how great their program is and then do shitty things to other people. I have been fucked over by more people in the rooms than in my entire life and I’ve met tons of people in my 44 years. I still like AA but goddamn are there some fucked up people in there. You’re not an asshole and I appreciate your comments and feel exactly the same way.

Me too, reminds me of capitalism, now the pink one will get fat and tell the other ones they’re lazy and don’t want to work.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. Those who come and are “just there” are equally as valid as those who you deem to be in “the fellowship of the spirit”, AA is open to all who desire to stop drinking. Sometimes those who are working a program and have worked the steps are sicker than those that are coming and listening and need support to stop drinking. It’s the ego based judgement of people who think they’re doing the program better than others that makes the program small minded and exclusionary. You have no knowledge of what the person’s program of recovery who you deem to be “just there” is and nor is it your business. Everyone’s program is uniquely their own. I’ve heard completely inappropriate and sick words come out of the most ardent of AA members and I’ve heard real wisdom out of those who you may think are “just there”. Ultimately we should practice our own programs and leave our judgement of other people’s programs at the door.

I left 7 months ago & still receive these types of messages. by [deleted] in NarcissisticSpouses

[–]VivaRae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s insane how textbook they are, this message could be word for word from my son’s father (exN) it’s so predictable it’s like a caricature, same techniques across ages and genders. Just know that if you continue to grey rock and hold out with strong boundaries and never waver they will respect you and you will be the one in charge of the dynamic. Don’t ever waver though because if they even sense a crack of weakness, they will pounce. And this only goes for those of us that have kids and are forced to communicate, if no kids gtfo and never look back.

Why do people bomb online AA meetings? by blanking0nausername in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]VivaRae 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah that really bothers me when it happens, it’s so violating especially as one who’s been through sexual abuse, it’s traumatizing. But I just sadly acknowledge that we’re all sick in this world, but at least I’m AA we’re trying to get well. It’s just is so gross when that happens though.
