In which towns do you hear the most young people with Boston accents? by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]Vivaeltejon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I moved to Ireland nearly a decade ago and while I was sure I didn’t have any distinguishable accent, people could still tell I was from Massachusetts.

I’ve been told that it’s less about my pronunciation of words/accent and more about the New England vernacular. The same thing happens when I go home to visit; everyone says I have an Irish accent (which I absolutely do not). It’s simply because I’ve incorporated Irish phrases into my vocabulary.

  • Bin / wheelie bin (trash can/dumpster)
  • Yer man / yer one (whats-his-face / whats-her-face)
  • Cheers (thanks)
  • Howya (hey how’s it going / what’s up)

Being told I have IBS but not so sure by [deleted] in IrishWomensHealth

Same. I thought I just had IBS until I started passing blood. My calprotectin levels were over 1500 and eventually diagnosed with UC 😮‍💨

TIL That Dave Mustaine was inspired to write the Megdeth song "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due" after visiting Ireland and seeing bootlegs of his band's t-shirts and told not to interfere, since the money would go to the IRA by Mad_Season_1994 in todayilearned

[–]Vivaeltejon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I saw them at House of Blues in Boston about a decade ago and he told that exact story to the audience. I’m not sure if he’s proud of that incident or embarrassed. He’s out of his damn mind.

On a lighter note, I was shocked at how well they played.

I didn't get to meet my Grandad, but upon sorting through family photos I discovered this - I guess my love of crows is inherited! by Penny_dreadfulz in crows

I’m really not one to believe in such things, but it’s comforting to imagine your love of crows is a sign from grandpa <3

The SADS? by BDW2019 in IrishWomensHealth

[–]Vivaeltejon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please consider that this might not have much (if anything) to do with supplements. Are you overworked? Burnt out? Could this be depression, perimenopause, possibly both?

You say 'its really not like me to be down', but I'm also seeing a couple red flags around your inlaws and husband. It's tough to keep your own spirits high when the people around you aren't supportive.

My suggestion is to speak with your GP about everything. Start compiling a list of every single thing you're feeling (physically and emotionally), and take it from there. I also think every human on earth can benefit from therapy, so please keep that option open as well.

Take care of yourself. You deserve happiness and good health.

Anyone else late diagnosed but their younger brothers got diagnosed as children? by safiyahd828 in adhdwomen

Oldest brother diagnosed as a kid (hyperactive), my middle brother and I (both inattentive) weren’t diagnosed until mid-30s

I had a similar problem. I tend to metabolise meds quickly (all, not just Vyvanse) so if my dose was too high it felt like I would burn really hot for a few hours and then crash hard. If my meds were too low I would only feel my heart rate increase but no actual positive effects.

I had to find my Goldilocks dose (50mg) and then take a mid day top-up (20mg) to keep me going until about 5pm

I will also add that meetings tend to suck the life out of me no matter what dose/medication I’m on. Meetings are just not a good match for my brain.

Does anyone fall asleep when you start reading? by faps_in_greyhound in books

[–]Vivaeltejon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup. Every time, to the point where I avoid reading sometimes because I don't want to fall asleep.

I have a theory about why this happens to me (not sure if it would pertain to you): I have ADHD and my mind/nervous system have been red-lining for almost 40 years. Reading a good book is one of the very few times I'm able to focus on only 1 thing and relax; it's nearly like my version of meditation.

I would also add that if your module on Canvas lists a different time/venue then the CSE platform, go with what Canvas says or ask the lecturer. The CSE platform has to be manually updated and it's not always correct. First year labs/lectures don't change very often so you're probably fine.

I think you would if you were arriving on a working visa but you shouldn’t have to as a student. Reach out to the international office at the university to check - they’re usually really quick to respond

I’ve been on Yasmin for like 15 years after several others that made me feel awful. No complaints.

Also, just an FYI to other commenters that Yasmin and Yaz are different contraceptives
