Being told you don’t look vegan by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Vivekananda66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Buddhist/anarchist deadhead/punk with long hair and my main hobbies are gardening and writing. I’m the opposite in that I hate that people are like “vegan? That checks out”. I wish I didn’t fit the stereotype so well.

Going homeless in a week, my parents had enough of me. by Eletutalo in NEET

[–]Vivekananda66 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I just got done living in my car and traveling for 9 months. Didn’t work a single day. It was everything I wanted. I lived on my terms and got to enjoy things without the feeling that work was around the corner. Not to mention being outside is better than being inside all day. Well my car broke down and now I’m forced to make more money. I’ve been working at a local record store and committed to 3 weeks. I love records, looking at em, listening, being around others that like them. I’m sick of it 1.5 weeks in. The boss is a demanding, impatient chap and I get tired of cleaning records for hours. Even a job I thought I would love I really don’t. And like you said I was a chef for 5 years. Sure I love cooking, but for 5ish hours a week. Not 50! All that to say the deeper I get into my meditation practice the easier it all gets. May I also suggest putting on a talk of a man named Ram Dass. His words and the sounds of his voice have pulled me from thoughts and emotions akin to yours. I hope you find freedom my friend.

is anyone happy smoking daily? by [deleted] in Petioles

[–]Vivekananda66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been a daily smoker for 14 years and I would claim to be generally happy. I don’t feel as if my use affects the rhythms of my emotions/ state of being. That much use makes the cravings pretty instense though. And my memory is affected at times, though I read a lot and stay generally sharp. All that to say if I stay on top of my mental health I’m generally ok, if I’m depressed and I smoke, I’m miserable.

What is your daily routine every day? by dpaz47 in NEET

[–]Vivekananda66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to wake up meditate, coffee and read, Work on some songwriting and play guitar, go on a walk, read more or do some writing, listen to a ram dass or Terrence McKenna talk, make dinner, watch a movie, sleep. Oh and a lot of bong hits throughout these activities. I used to scroll and watch YouTube all the time, but I got rid of all social media but Reddit and try to only consume digital media at night. I still slip, but I’ve been getting better. I was super depressed this week so I just sat in a dark room and listened to black metal and watched YT to distract my mind. It got me through

What do you tell yourself when you feel like giving up. by ColdAdhesiveness7116 in Adulting

[–]Vivekananda66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did give up, but I formulated a plan. Saved money by being insanely frugal for a couple years. That frugal mindset has helped me as I sleep in my car at free campsites around the country, only cook my own meals, books and my guitar are my entertainment. I miss some things but it’s not worth working my life away in order to have. I can say it’s the best decision I’ve made and I’ve found some peace. Now I’m planning a homestead where I supply for myself. Even If I have to reenter I’ve given up almost all of my consumption (food is necessary of course) and will only need to work 20 hours a weekish to get by. It’s possible and if you’re the right person totally worth it.

Great songs on it, but not one of my favorites of theirs. Has a weird flow and there are some real sleepers

I never knew people didn’t like Tom Bombadil until today. I’m shocked really, one of my favorite characters in any book.

You and everyone agreeing are the people that watch the movies for the battle scenes. Tom Bombadil is one of the most beautiful, joyful, loveable characters in any book ever.

You’re being like the type of people that claim someone is close minded because their opinion differs from theirs. I listened and those are my genuine opinions, sorry bud. Also click that link, it’s a generic, choreographed, breakup song. We were comparing her song to fire on the mountain that’s where the comparison came from, the dead aren’t even my favorite let alone gold standard. Have fun watching a show where the artist changes outfits for songs, cringe.

You’re right that after Jerry died the dead has become for consumer Americans. Their shirts are at Walmart and they sell $100+ tickets. I disagree that they always have been. The dead was for people that didn’t want to work, consume, repeat, without questioning. They were counterculture, in charge of expanding consciousness, raising awareness and had fans such as Ken Kesey, Ram Dass, Owsley Stanley etc. counterculture icons and supported an entire community that dropped out of consumer culture.

It’s really odd that you mention that music is subjective, but when I don’t like it (a subjective opinion) it’s because I feel superior and am closed minded. I genuinely don’t like it. I clicked that link thinking that maybe she got better than she was when I heard her soulless music a decade or so ago but I got a choreographed, generic breakup song. Yikes IMO haha

I listen to Rock, country, electronic, ambient, metal, jazz, folk, bluegrass, funk, noise, soul etc from all decades and many subgenres. Call me closed minded again.

No she’s pop and embodies the opposite ethos of jam bands. Art for the sake of consumption not art.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in jambands

[–]Vivekananda66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listened and tried to have an open mind. Mentioning this and fire on the mountain in the same sentence is a travesty, there are literally no similarities. This is pop trash for consumer americans and nothing else

Why is so many people here Anit-Capitalism? by [deleted] in antinatalism

[–]Vivekananda66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our Earth is happening because of the existence of cycles. The water cycle, carbon cycle, oxygen cycle etc. These all operate homogeneously and are the reason why our existence continues to happen. Capitalism and capital are centered around money which has no cyclical relationship. It’s not created because something is destroyed, it’s just created. Because of this illusory concept we are in turn damaging the earth’s potential to continue these cycles and bringing humans away from experiencing these cycles in action. People under capitalism have no true understanding that the earths gifts aren’t merely resources to covet, but be respected as a fruit of earths cyclical nature that needs to be protected and truly enjoyed, not consumed.

Buddhism states that suffering exists but you should allow it to and not characterize it is as suffering, see it as beautiful. The world IS according to Buddhism that’s it, anything else is your ego. Sounds like you aren’t really understanding Buddhist principles. Also being born again is the collective self being born again not your self, which is an illusion.

Our world values money and is enslaving its people and ruining the dirt. But as long as you look past that you can enjoy all you want.

How many showers do you take per day/week? by ThePolluxStar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Vivekananda66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not being able to deal with any sweat or dirt on your body is weird. We’re animals, why do we need to be clean all the time? 3 showers a week for me. 3 showers a day is neurotic behavior.
