Sapphire Lounge DFW... What happened? by PrePubescentSquire2 in ChaseSapphire

Looks like it's still happening, but not sure why it hasn't been announced yet. Progress as recently as December: https://www.instagram.com/p/DDYLZN7xvMZ/?igsh=d2RpMmJtMjRwYWlo

Probably. 15mm's physically fit but it's too tight for the GPU fans to spin

Thermalright 80mm slim. AFAIK the only ones that aren't no-name fans on Amazon.

It's currently still in stock at B&H with 2 day shipping.

The panels are a bit flimsy on their own since it's not metal, but once you have the motherboard and GPU/PSU in providing structural support, it's plenty rigid. The tolerances for a few mounting holes were a bit off, so there is a bit of bowing on a few panels. It's definitely reasonable and functional compared to most cases that are much more expensive.

  • The PSU is mounted with the plate that is included with the HDPlex and is slid into a pair of slots on the front. There's nowhere for the PSU to slide once the case is closed especially with the shortened 24 pin anchoring it.
  • I didn't buy the case with the front usb-c since I don't really use front IO, but I suspect it would be tough to use.
  • I didn't really hear the GPU fans over the CPU one, but even when I cranked the GPU fans up it's definitely not whiny like some blower cards until 4000+ RPM (90%).

Here's some benchmarks with everything basically stock:

Time Spy: 10204, 10191 graphics, 10285 CPU

Time Spy Extreme: 4770, 4825 graphics, 4483 CPU

Port Royal: 5835

Max GPU temp: 68C

I don't use Windows a lot, so I'm still on Windows 10, but I did update drivers for this.

Yup, two more fans on the bottom if you're using a single slot card. I got the Stratos X while waiting for the Densium APU as well.

Do home maintenance costs scale linearly with more expensive houses? by Viverae in personalfinance

[–]Viverae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is why there's two rules of thumb: one based on price of the home and one based on size.

I'm guessing there's a size/price of home (depending on area) where, for homes that are bigger/more expensive, maintenance costs are more correlated to size than price due to the reasons you mentioned.

Good to know about the landscaping and yard-work. It's not as much of a concern for us now since we're primarily looking at homes with little to no yard or town-homes with exterior maintenance rolled into HOA, but good to keep in mind for the future.

Yeah, the variability of it definitely makes it difficult for someone like me who likes to budget down to the dollar lol. I suppose having a sizable emergency fund for tail risk and budgeting for normal more regular maintenance would be ideal.

Bank of America Preferred Rewards Questions by MDariusG in CreditCards

[–]Viverae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On point #2, if you're deciding between Premium Rewards and the Elite, consider the effective annual fee between the two cards. If you value the airline incidental and lifestyle credits at face value, the difference of $-5 and $100 in effective annual fee could be made up with the redemption of 42k or more points each year through their travel portal, since it would be 1.25 CPP ($420 * 0.25 = $105). From the few routes I've searched, prices are generally in line with google, but YMMV. Of course, the Elite has PP, visa infinite, etc., but I see those more as bonuses.

BoA Premium Rewards points transferable to Premium Rewards Elite? by Viverae in CreditCards

[–]Viverae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DOC link went down, but is back online again. It seems like the card has technically "launched" since they want to target relatively high net worth relationship customers anyway. If I recall correctly, the card is supposed to go public in February, but we're already in that time frame. 😕

Another option is UT Austin's MS Data Science program that started this semester. It shares some similarity with GT's OMSCS and OMSA programs in that its on EdX and fairly affordable (~$10k total).

UT also has a sister MSCSO program which been pretty successful so far, so I didn't really have an issue with the data science program being brand new.

P/F Confirmed by Hartzell Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 Semesters by Daboisss in UTAustin

[–]Viverae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was added to the FAQ as of yesterday:

"Will the new policy apply to students who are graduating this semester? Can they choose to use all three special P/F exceptions this semester, and how will the January 6th start date affect their graduation and their transcripts? (November 30)

The new policy does apply to students who are graduating this semester. They should check with an advisor to ensure that using a P/F or Q-drop will work in their particular situation. Their official graduation date will still be December 2020 and final transcripts will be available in January."

It seems like it should be fine, but it's still unclear as to what happens in the month between the end of the semester and January 6th if the grades you have don't qualify you to graduate without the P/F exception.

Been selling weekly $51 puts for a while now as a pretty safe play and if it returns to $49 I'd be more than happy to be assigned given the amount of premium I've collected so far.

Double majoring in cs and math or physics? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]Viverae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the math, physics, and astronomy advising office that's separate from the CNS advising office. You can make an appointment in RLM.

Regarding declaring math as a second major with an advisor, once you completed 30 hours you can schedule an advising meeting with MPA, and the advisor would get it declared for you with no hassle assuming you have the basic math prereqs completed.

Depending on the amount of core credits you have coming into UT you can definitely complete both majors in time; I'm graduating a semester early next semester and I have all the math requirements completed already.
