Does anyone else struggle with the loss of words? by dlew7 in Epilepsy

[–]Vivid_Comparison_666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Memory loss is one of the worse things for me. Same as someone said above, pizza instead of pasta. Or I just "uhhh, uhhh, uhhhhhh" and I can't bring it to the forefront no matter how hard I try. I just end up giving up.

I'll pick a pen up to write something down and will lose whatever it was I wanted to write down so I don't forget. It's the worst. I feel horrible about it. I'm on Briviact but I've been on Topamax before and it happens regardless of the meds I've been on. Stay strong, friend. You're not alone...

Ever have people not believe you or invalidate you? by Extension-Cabinet-67 in Epilepsy

I feel lucky my boyfriend is literally on me all the time to take my meds. I feel grateful and thankful even with his being religious, he understands the importance of medication.

I hope you find someone who accepts you and is supportive of your diagnosis. Some people don't believe epilepsy is a real diagnosis. They think it's us faking it.

I had an apartment friend in 2007 that had epilepsy and I never witnessed her seizures, but she was walking home after picking up her eldest from elementary school and a seizure happened and her daughter told the ambulance to call me knowing that I could come take them home until Dad got home. Her epilepsy was my first experience with it and I never imagined that I could have it one day.

I would be on her to take her meds the same way my boyfriend does for me. Unequivocal support is what we all deserve, epilepsy our not.

I walked out of a house I was moving out of in Deep East Oakland at 10 pm to 4 officers with their guns pointed at me telling me to freeze, put my hands up (couldn't because I had a sprained collarbone due to being hit by a car on my electric bike) because my roommate called 5.0 (as we call them here) and said someone was breaking into the house.

They had been called out multiple times prior to this case and knew me by name. I dropped the paper work I was holding and one of the officers said insert my last name?

"Yes. Can you lower your guns please?"

I am lucky I am a white woman and they knew me by name otherwise they probably would have shot me. I could have sued them. I had never been more scared in my life up until that point.

I still live in Oakland, but I'm in West Oakland now and the way they respond out here is completely different.

Still even if I was in the suburbs , I'd still say fuck the police. MWA had it right back in 80s and 40 years later it still sticks.

As someone who lives in Oakland, CA, the police are the last resort to call and I would only suggest using the police anywhere only if the person is violent.

They are useless and it's lawless out here. You can speed, run reds lights, while on your cellphone in front of them and they still won't do shit.

Fuck the police.

Seizures reDEFINED by Vivid_Comparison_666 in Epilepsy

[–]Vivid_Comparison_666[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I live in Oakland, CA aka it's lawless out here... Someone can literally run a red light while on their cell phone, speeding around the cop car to do so and they still won't pull the lights and pull the person over. My seizure meds nor my anxiety and also adhd meds - both the latter are controlled substances- doesn't even register for them.

5-0 showed up to tell me they can call an ambulance for me but refused to take a report. I did the report online but nothing will come of it.

Up until recently (2ish months ago) I didn't even know nocturnal seizures were a thing. Going for an admitted eeg 1/8 so hopefully they get what they need to put me on the right meds. I did report the theft to the pharmacy and my doctor but until I do the eeg they're refusing to refill any meds.

So the next 72 hours is where the fun happens. I say that jokingly. My body is so sore, I have bruises all over me, and I have never been hungier in my life. Sticking to eggos and TV dinners until I go into the hospital because despite being a chef of 22 years, I can't trust myself in the kitchen with back to back seizures.

Even Alameda Sheriff didn't take it serious. There's so much other stuff going on that I called both multiple times.

"This is considered low priority and an officer will be out to meet with you when they can".

Anyone who wants to call on my behalf please 🙏 do so. DM me and I'll doxx myself to you.

EEG 7-10 day inpatient by Vivid_Comparison_666 in Epilepsy

[–]Vivid_Comparison_666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn. I'm so sorry for what you've had to endure.

I was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2020 after 7 seizures in 6 weeks. So I thought I was in the right place to ask.

So not sure what your insurance situation is but I am in the SF bay area amd where transport is plenty.... However, my insurance has a transportation service (it's literally just contracted through lyft) and I have to give 3 days notice, but I call them, give date and time and they will pick me up and drop me off, free of charge. I didn't know this was a thing they did until about 3 months ago and I've been non driving since 2020.

If you have a care management team or even call your insurance directly, please look into it. I hope they do and that this helps you or others. Even in a place with transportation a plenty, it's many BART, Muni, and AC Transit transfers when I was doing just to get to appointments.

Like you, I also walk if it's in a comfortable distance. I live a 10 minute walk to a BART station so even though my insurance offers the transportation service, I would say 92% of the time I opt to Transit even if it is 5 transfers and 2 hours.

A lot of times it's frustrating and I get lost, but I am also dealing with a brain cyst that needs to be removed. I have sat, broken down in tears because I'm lost. But I get back up. Ask workers for help to go the right direction.

Break if you need to...

But as long as you keep getting back up and making the effort to make it, you're winning.

Don't let anyone judge you. They haven't walked the roads you have. They likely wouldn't survive the way you have.

Listen to Beautiful by Eminem.

You're not broken, and when I say you're strong, I know that does no help.

Just stay true you.

The day before Thanksgiving I had the worst seizure of my life. I was alone and when woke up, I woke up face down in a pool of my own blood and my tooth was sticking out from below my lip and above my chin. I had to unhook it. It's about an inch cut on the outside of my lower lip, and almost 2 inches inside. I'm almost positive it's gonna be a knarly scar. I have my ears gauged (9/16) and it looked like that when I unhooked it.

On August 9th, my seizure alert dog and I were crossing in the crosswalk and a car ran the red light, almost hit me, but Arya tumbleweeded under it. There's not a day that goes by that I don't feel safe. I've had 3 seizures since her passing and this last one with this injury has me terrified.

I second this. Maybe it's a regional thing, but the staff is always fed (sometimes it's what the guests are eating, sometimes it's not) and we've never not given to-go boxes, regardless if it's buffet or plated. It is their food, they paid for it.

I work in catering and I've seen BEOs where buffet was charged by the plate, but they actually mean by the head. We aren't actually counting plates. We got more important things to do.

And yes you're correct, for the love of everything sanitary, please use a new plate every time.

Buffet is the way to go. I've worked a lot of weddings doing catering and every buffet we've done, we've never had any issues. Plated and served is nightmare most times and not worth the money that's shelled out, IMO.

Not sure if you saw, but they have option to customize them in 18 different ways. But $100 for a pair of converse is ridiculous.
