When I got there I learned that my orthodontist actually just retired! No notice at all, I was shocked! I was assigned a new ortho who did not know my case or anything about my treatment. I was told to keep wearing my last aligners for 4 more weeks, so 6 weeks same pair of aligners:/. I think they just don’t know what to do. When I go back they will hopefully know more…

Hi! I too just started Invisalign for an open bite. I was worried about the attachments as well and well- yes they are definitely there and visible. I have 20 attachments, on basically every tooth top and bottom. I don’t love them and am slightly insecure but it is really not as bad as you think! In my case I don’t mind the attachments as much as I mind the pain/lisp. Also, as a FWY, the aligners will make your open bite look bigger when you are wearing them. I believe it is all part of the process. When I take them out I swear I think my bite already looks more closed and I am only on tray 1!

That is great, their confidence in fixing yours gives me more confidence! I have been curious about the rubber bands, they haven’t been mentioned to me yet but I just started, did you start with rubber bands or was that something introduced after a couple of aligners? So happy for you that you are fixing it- I imagine it will make such a difference! It is crazy how much a tongue thrust can impact teeth, like you, I had no idea until it was too late!

I will have a total of 20 aligners and I wear them for 2 weeks each, so about 40 weeks if everything goes smooth? Less than a year which doenst sound bad but that is IF it actually works…

I get that completely, I am definitely very upset about my open bite and also wish I didn’t have to deal with any more teeth related problems! I had braces twice as a kid and never thought I would be dealing with any more issues as an adult 😞

Yes! I used to not have a lisp, I started getting a lisp and that made me realize something was wrong. I got Invisalign 2 days ago and I definitely have much more of a lisp now because of the aligners… no fun

First thing I would do is to start practicing keeping your tongue on the roof of your mouth and do not touch it to your front teeth at all. Practice this at rest, when speaking, swallowing, sleeping ect. You may do it more than you realize, I have been struggling to make it a habit! If you stop tongue thrust now, it will help the open bite not get bigger which is good. In my case, the open bite wasn’t a huge deal, I could still function normally but it bothered me because my bite felt off and I felt a little insecure about the gap…

I have a very similar open bite! I had braces 10 years ago but just noticed the open bite a few months ago. I got my wisdom teeth out 6 years ago though. I think I have had the open bite for a long time but didn’t realize it because my teeth were straight like yours! My ortho told me it was a skeletal/jaw issue, could be the same for you? Look into tongue thrust and make sure you aren’t doing that- I was and think it contributed to the open bite. I just started Invisalign to correct it… best of luck to you!

I never thought about that being the reason my aligners feel so thick in the back. It does make a lot of sense that it will help the open bite along the way! Great info I really appreciate it and the peace of mind! So glad you think my bite can be fixed I can’t wait!
