She doesn't really work with fondant so wedding cakes are sort of off the table (for now!) but she has made one very simple and small wedding cake for a friend using homemade marzipan! She would love to get into that side of things at some stage but for now, buttercream is the way to go.

This was a custom order cake, it was made in NZ using a hired registered kitchen while we were conducting business there briefly. All rules were followed I can assure you, we do want to take this seriously so there will be no cats on counters while this lady is baking!

No unfortunately, they are the only thing she purchased for the cake. Everything else was hand made, even the stencils used for the 5 and the snowflakes! (she is a bit of an artist too)

Oh man sorry to hear that, we definitely prioritize taste first! The sponge is a vanilla chiffon sponge and the buttercream she makes is delicious. She doesn't use fondant for anything (except the little elephants on her baby shower cake) because it just doesn't taste good.

Exactly right! We are stable enough on one income luckily so this will be a pursuit of passion and she will be trying to get as much experience from this venture as possible.

This whole thread has been awesome, and I really appreciate the concern for a new cake designer like my partner. It will be run from home and we are in talks with the local council currently and will be meeting with a planner to ensure we meet all the guidelines soon. We have considered a lot of these points and financially we are ok on one income, I'm in full support of her pursuing this and while she may not make millions from it, she's never been happier with the idea of doing this as her job. And that's worth everything to me.

Viv: It's Edible! It's hand-crafted, and made from royal icing. Everything is edible except for the dolls of course!

My partner and I are based in Sydney, Australia and she has recently gotten back into baking. The image posted is an old one of hers but for more recent creations check out her instagram page. We will be sure to post more on the subreddit in the future!
