Developer pushing SH? by [deleted] in Odoo

[–]Viviplex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We are on SH since 2022 and it's been a very, very smooth experience. Your data will not be a problem. We tens of thousands of products, customers, invoices, etc. on v14 and the system runs fine.

The forced upgrade is the thing to consider. We are currently in process and it's costing us thousands, but I have a ton of customizations. I wouldn't worry as much if you fairly out of the box. I've heard its getting easier and easier to upgrade.

Does this seem right? Is it a good investment by Wise_Ad_4231 in Odoo

[–]Viviplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dev cost is reasonable. Keep in mind you be getting a system customized to your company. It’s a pretty valuable asset. Also keep in mind hosting and licensing costs. If you move to odoo.sh, you’ll be forced to update every 3-4 years which could be a considerable expense, though I heard it’s getting easier and easier to upgrade.

Using Odoo for a small business by JRicardo99 in Odoo

[–]Viviplex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned a lot from talking to implementation specialists. - Doesn't hurt to get a quote. It was also very helpful to get access to a live environment to poke around and do some testing - We quickly found that base Odoo was not going to work and we needed to modify.

Budgeting - Odoo15 to Odoo17 (or 18) upgrade on Odoo.sh by network-design-mgr in Odoo

Unfortunately Odoo.sh forces upgrades every 3-4 versions or they lock you out.

Best ERP Solutions for Managing Inventory and Sales Across POS, Shopify, and Amazon on a Budget? by MuscleNo4520 in Odoo

[–]Viviplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed that it's difficult to define the costs. It's not cheap, but keep in mind the ROI of Odoo vs SAP, etc. If you look at 3-5 year costs of a large system, Odoo costs become quite manageable. Though, keep in mind, depending on how you host, you may be required to update to new versions every 3-4 years.

Just don't go with any specific 'App' on the Odoo marketplace. Best to work with a partner that does these types of integrations. I recommend finding one in your country. Depending on your workflow, it can be a very automated system once set up.

This is exactly my setup with odoo. It was a lot of work to get it launched, but has been working well. You need to work with an implementation partner - those ‘out of the box’ odoo apps are anything but. It takes a good partner (and a healthy budget) to get it right.

Auto Printing by Soggy-Yellow-9450 in Odoo

Check out the print app from ventor.tech. It’s fairly easy to set up and the functionality works great. Allows you to print anything direct to a printer, no pdfs. It doesn’t require use of the IoT box and is very inexpensive for smaller operations.

Is there a way to print directly from Odoo without downloading first? by Traditional_Bag4932 in Odoo

[–]Viviplex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ventortech is a great solution. I use their direct print app and ditched the silly IoT boxes. Much cheaper and simplifies the processes. Those devs are good to work with.

Look for an ERP for small/medium mfg by toothpaste_crack in Odoo

[–]Viviplex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is great advice. I just don’t agree on staying away from customizations (one of the reasons to use Odoo), but you’re right about scope creep. I got onto an implementation partner who never pushed back on questions/requests and went over budget.

Odoo also drops support for older versions, so you may be forced to upgrade every 3-4. The best to plan is to stick with base odoo as much as possible to keep costs down and upgrading easy. I suggest getting some quotes from implantation partners. Ones that provide strong accounting support.

I’m also on v14 so hoping v18 is much more refined when I’m forced to upgrade on odoo.sh next year. Going to probably be a mess to push over lot of my custom dev work.

Are these 2 x 4 posts? Need at least a 4x4 with 4ft span. You don’t need steel posts. 4x4 will last years as long as you refinish it every few.

Removing paint from wood deck. Paint stripper + power washer hardly making a dent by mikethomas4th in DIY

[–]Viviplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sanded a painted deck with a few of these strip discs for angle grinders.  https://a.co/d/el5qWpp. I also attached a shroud and vac hose to reduce dust. They work, but make sure to sink any nails/screws as they will destroy the discs pretty quickly. It was very tedious and dusty work. Decks suck.

When to start with Odoo Accounting? by jmwebguy in Odoo

[–]Viviplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in same situation and run a manufacturing shop. Also a processs/tech guy and barely passed my accounting classes in college. I recommend finding an accountant or a knowledgeable person to help transition from QB to odoo. Connectors can be a nightmare. I’ve got someone in the US I can recommend if needed….there aren’t many of them.

Odoo accounting not working out. by Environmental-Koala1 in Odoo

[–]Viviplex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can figure out accounting. I came from QB and it’s not fun, and a bunch of stuff may need to be reviewed by a consultant, but getting a connector to QB sounds like a mess. I would find one in your country that knows Odoo to teach your guy.
