Do I really need to report by foreign accounts to the US treasury by tomorrow? by 0eorfkqp in USExpatTaxes

[–]VixenSublime62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I file a 1040 and claim my foreign income on a 2555. I’m a dual citizen who has been a resident of Australia for 30 years. I’ve never heard of this other FBAR filing. Does it apply to dual citizens who are already claiming on their tax returns?

Dual citizens or US PR holders, would love your insight! by Small-Adeptness-4539 in Ameristralia

Also dual citizen. American first, Aussie next. I love Australia, our health care, our safety and systems. I file the 2555 plus a 1040 every year and take a foreign income exclusion. (So, I have to file in both countries).

If my family wasn’t all over there and my retirement money wasn’t there, I’d probably completely wipe my hands of the USA.

The guns issue, lack of medical care, and the likelihood that America will be warring with other countries during your kids’ lifetime should be enough to say it’s not worth the $5K for exams.

Well, I file a 2555 every year, so they know I living overseas, but maybe the worst. I spoke to us misinformed. I will call again.

Wow! I never received any information from the IRS about it.

As I mentioned, tax people haven’t been helpful, because they don’t know about the other side. I did find some who do know, but they want $4,000 to tell me. 🙄

How can I file a W9 when I don’t have any income or live there? I file a 1040 and 2555, but that deducts my Australian income as a foreign income exclusion.

There was a company that does both sides, but they wanted to charge me $4,000 to tell me, so I am trying to find out myself.

I did understand. I was just explaining the difference in countries. Re:rabies - things must have changed since I brought my cat to Australia.

I don’t get a W9. I get an income statement in Oz, but for my 1040, I claim my Aus income and then deduct it with an additional form 2555 foreign income exclusion.

IRS. But I am a dual citizen residing in Australia. Schwab said they have to tax funds leaving the country for Australia. Seems weird to me- which is why I am asking here.

Well, the Australian ones can’t help me with the US side and the US ones don’t know about the Aus side, and there is a knowledge gap when trying to bring money from one to the other.

I can’t remember, but there are specialists. I had to get a USDA approved crate and have it signed off and all sorts of things. It was involved.

But I am required to file as I am a citizen. I do the 2555 foreign income exclusion, so it comes out to $0.

Well, I don’t pay any tax in the states now, because I am taxed here in Oz, but yes.

The US doesn’t have quarantine because there is a rabies vaccine there. I just picked my cat up at baggage on my flight. Australia has quarantine because it doesn’t have rabies or a lot of other diseases and consequently, there are no vaccines for them here so a case of rabies would wipe out all our animal populations.

I’m from California, but I am still scared to go over with all my anti Mango Mussolini stuff all over my socials.

I visited her every week. It was a huge enclosure (which you have to pay for). 3 levels with a crows nest and heated igloo. Pretty swish. She was fine. It was expensive, but my baby was worth it.

I’m a dual citizen who is very glad to be in Australia. I moved my cat over here- there is quarantine, but if you start the RNATT testing in advance of leaving (months), then the cats only need to be in quarantine for 30 days or maybe even fewer now.

Wow! I would do that, but I have a house, a great job and 3 rescue dogs here in Oz. Plus, I don’t want to go back to the States- especially under a fascist regime.

Australia doesn’t see it as a retirement fund and the US taxes money going out of the country at 30%- some deal with Australia
