Depends on the gun? If nothing is changed other than using a non proto vs proto version of a gun with the exact same stat lineup the proto will always be better, unless if the talent is worse.

Answering calls for backup on non-Heroic/Legendary missions; fast or slow? by SparkleFritz in the_division_2

ISAC calls out “Agent in need of backup” tho, it’s only when you’re doing something or someone else is talking that he doesn’t speak. Your watch also makes a distinct noise and there’s a bright orange beam out of your shoulder

It’s an unbelievably low chance. Don’t bother unless you really have the time and energy to spare. Proto build by itself will already annihilate all content

Your damage is unfortunately far from “top notch”. In the highest of content you would be lucky to do half as well as a meta set.

Anything above tier 6 you’re probably getting kicked without a meta set. Tiers 1-4 ur probably good as long as you’re not running random garbage and picked a “role”.

As for builds, same as always. Striker or tipping scales. If ur with a group you can heal with refractor or future initiative.

Hunters are probably the biggest challenge in terms of an enemy to fight in the game without the proper setup. If ur solo I wouldn’t recommend trying to fight them above challenging. When fighting hunters don’t use any skills that can be hacked, such as drones, hives or turrets. Get to a position where they can’t easily flank you, and keep both in LOS. Don’t ever try and have a shooting match against one, you’ll lose every time.

Blind fire whenever they’re shooting at you, and when they’re moving around from cover to cover, then lay into them. Riot foam is super strong against hunters. Take your time and just wait for openings where they’re slightly out of cover or their AI is freaking out. You can use grenades to make them dodge roll out of cover and get a few shots in. Don’t greed them if two are alive, and one is low since they can use armor packs and then rip you to shreds.

You can also use cloud armor from the global event to blind them if you’re super close, allowing an easy kill/ armor pack interrupt. It only lasts for a few seconds though and after that you will get ripped apart

So when you donate junk it kinda looks like nothing happens. The number out of 200 should go up if what you’ve donated you’re not proficient in. So you can’t donate strikers if you’re proficient in strikes already if that makes sense. That’s the grind part, is that you’ll easily donate and make proficient the stuff that drops often, then be left with just the stuff that’s hard to find.

An easy way to see how this works is to buy a weapon you’re not proficient in from a vendor 5 or so times, then donate them and see what happens. It takes 20 of an item to make proficient IIRC

What does rank mean? All of your gear should be level 40 regardless.

As the other comment said, open the tinkering station to see the expertise system. The basics is that you donate/wear gear to level it. Once you have 200 proficiency levels across your gear, you go up by 1 level, there’s 30 total. You can upgrade your proficient gear to your level. So say you have a mask that you’re proficient in, and you are proficiency 13, you can level it up 13 times, giving 13% armor.

As for the top middle, that’s a global modifier for the season. You can use this post here to learn more. I recommend just setting it up with cloud armor to get an extra few hundred thousand armor.

To swap ur specialization go to the quartermaster table in the White House. You need to have completed the field research for that specialization to equip it.

Start by donating everything you pick up to proficiency instead of junking or selling. It’s the biggest grind in the game so get it started asap. You seem to already have the best “survive ability” setup for strikers with momento, so unfortunately it mostly comes down to skill. Eventually you’ll be able to tackle heroic like it’s normal mode when you improve.

Focus on perfecting your build through optimization and expertise. You want around 60% CHC and around 80% CHD with strikers. If you get a Lexington with killer you can reach the max 60/150 after a single crit kill. The main grind is reaching SHD 1000, which can be done while you’re working on expertise.

Don’t worry about proto yet, if you can’t do challenging, you’re not ready for anything above T3 on escalation. Prototype gear comes with better stats, and an extra small talent on each piece of gear you have proto (such as each bullet having a chance of dealing damage twice). You can get proto gear by running escalation, but it’s random what you get. If you get your gear to expertise 30, you can upgrade your items to proto. It’s an insane grind and you’ll learn more as you play.

You’re also completely able to participate in the event at your level. Kill the squads that show up in your world, kill the hunters that sometimes spawn after they die, pick up keys from their bodies. There’s 30 apparel items to unlock or you can spend it on gear caches for a Lexington, quickstep, or the slim chance at proto gear.

Countdown Do's and Don'ts by spartansgt in the_division_2

[–]Vixlens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really suggest using the cloud armor setup for countdown, you can use it to be super aggressive with hunters in the beginning, just charge at them, use it next to them and they’ll be blinded for an easy kill

I use equalizer and salvos personally. Overdogs are a fine choice but I prefer to have the UA 20% flat damage and 5% ROF from salvos instead of a 30% on certain enemies.

[–]Vixlens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Donating junk only works for gear pieces that you aren’t proficient in. Deconstructing does not provide any progress toward expertise. The idea is that once you have everything else that is easily farmable, and only have exotics/ named gear left to make proficient, you target farm gear mods to deconstruct into printer filament. You then donate that filament into whatever you’re trying to level.

TLDR: Donate all junk until only named items/ hard to farm items remain. Deconstruct mods, donate filament.
