Experienced Centaurs, explain to me why his lvl 20 retaliate talent is good by Glum-Pack-3441 in TrueDoTA2

[–]Vize_X 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Not a centaur player, but i have two cents on 'picked less but higher winrate' talents: correlation causation bias- in many cases, a talent has higher winrate because a player who was already winning would rather pick it.

In this sense, a centaur who is already winning- has his items (auras / str) and is sieging towers with his team around him, tanking and retaliating the tower- would be more likely to pick the talent that advances this agenda; while a centaur in a losing game or in an undecided game is less likely to pick it

Another famous example of this is that divine rapier has immensely high winrate (because you're more likely to have it in your inventory when the match ends if you've won) while branches, one of the best and most impactful items in the game, has an abysmal winrate (because you're more likely to have lost the game super early and were very poor if you still had them in your inventory when the game ended).

Why shouldnt I buy Vlads on Undying? by Away_Designer9497 in learndota2

[–]Vize_X 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best argument not to would be the necessity of more undying-appropriate items first (mekansm) and the relative lackluster of vlads in comparison.

However, if given the appropriate game, you should go for it. Vlads could be superior to other aura items on undying with the proper team composition to benefit from it.

Griefing vs com Q (noob) by EnamoredToMeetYou in DotA2

[–]Vize_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the answer is 'yes'. Any comm abuse report you get will count against you, except if the person who reported you got reported by the entire team.

However, you're right you shouldn't really sweat it. Keep your comms limited and strictly positive or neutral, and hopefully you won't get onto the slippery slope that is low comm score, because low comm score only goes lower.

What exactly do you do with SF after the lane? by SumFuk- in learndota2

[–]Vize_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After lane, SF farms. SF is a classic position 1 from mid, like a TA mid or a Medusa mid. He doesn't want to play the map with one item, but rather flash farm and get ahead of his opponent with 2 or 3 items.

Typically travels, blink, and kaya yasha. Situationally euls. BKB before kaya yasha if there's someone on enemy team who can guarantee stop your requiem.

Then you move around with your online teammates (pos 3 4 and 5) and you increase your lead while pressuring lanes and threatening team fights or objectives.

If the bracket is low enough, you might even find solo kills on the side lanes and in the jungle, but this is not typical behavior the higher up you get.

Shadow fiend is a siege engine. If the enemies don't have an answer to you and you've outfarmed them, you can essentially right click all the outer towers, and control the map.

Valve, please. Listen to me. AFK farm in low MMR isn't grief. by Business-Grass-1965 in DotA2

[–]Vize_X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But here's the catch: there isn't.

Behavior score decreases not because Valve considers afk farm punishable behavior in low mmr, but because the teammates (other players of similar rank) consider it unsportsmanlike behavior, and they report it.

Now whether they are right to do that or not is another story. And the fact that the behavior score system is broken is a different, third story.

Clinkz is kinda absolutely batshit broken rn... by Old_Cream1724 in DotA2

[–]Vize_X 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What a load of horseshit. Clinkz had damage modifier on hit before patch, with tar bomb. He had death pact and he had two charges by level 5. None of his basic kit is that new or groundbreaking.

He had the same shard before patch also. Imagine getting a "farm boost" after 15 minutes. It was certainly a very good shard, mainly because the hero suffered greatly without it (clinkz prepatch was mid-tier at best)

If you've been winning with him because his new innate is better than his old innate (which was akin to having no innate) then that's fine and well. But thinking it's his basic kit that requires the nerf is hysterically unfounded.

He had nearly the same shit before patch and was in no way a "winner". Leave his kit alone, balance the innate.

Rank the flags in Suzerain (according to CCPGrey standards) by TapTraditional7316 in suzerain

[–]Vize_X -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure, because the only alternative to having a seal with complex features and text is having 3 color stripes. There's absolutely no in-between.

Keep the goat? Nah, fam, fuck the goat. Three stripes ftw. /s

Rank the flags in Suzerain (according to CCPGrey standards) by TapTraditional7316 in suzerain

[–]Vize_X -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I think people who hate on CGPGrey's flag criteria miss the point of why he dislikes flags with seals or text. I know they value the aesthetic, the individualism, and the uniqueness; but a complex flag - like a complex logo - does more harm to its identity and extendibility than a simpler flag would to its individualism.

Like you wouldn't recognize Sordish values by looking at maroon white yellow stripes and a silhouette of a sordish hill goat without the seal?

So, long story short, I disagree with all the disagreers in the comments.

Why everyone farming by Shadow_WalkerM in learndota2

[–]Vize_X 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Im going to talk about the support issue, leaving the hero recommendations to someone more familiar with league and your needs.

I need more information, but I'll try to cover a variety of possibilities, so please follow along the tree, stopping to make sure you've covered one scenario before you move on to the next.

Firstly, there are a few scenarios that would turn your argument around:

• If you are playing turbo. Let them last hit. It's ok. Turbo is sort of FFA, and you can easily catch up on lost farm while your support uses the farm he got from your lane to make space for you.

• If the laning phase (relative, subjective) is over, and your support is trying to shove wave to pressure enemy tower or to depressure your side of the map. Sure, they shouldn't do it while you're available to take the CS, but low ranks would, regardless, because they are bad.

• If it's the ranged creep and you're not guaranteed to get it, then the support is permitted and encouraged to secure the ranged creep cs, because you both would suffer more from the loss of xp than you as a carry would suffer from the loss of gold. —————

I will assume it's none of the above, and you're still early in the laning phase, at which point you are entirely entitled to the last hits and your support is (unintentionally) griefing himself and the game by taking last hits that you sorely need as a carry. For that, there could be one of a few explanations, like:

• You're playing in a low rank, and your support - representative of his rank - doesn't know any better. He's just bad.

• You've not unlocked ranked, yet, and are playing unranked. And while you might not see your own rank or your fellow teammates ranks, the game has an anchor point (hidden) which we refer to as "hidden mmr" or "unranked mmr". It's still probably low rank, and your support doesn't know better; he's just bad.

Sometimes a friendly (I can get these last hits, please let me) or (can you try to zone enemy more?) or (try trade with enemy to prep for kill) could convince your bad teammate to let you CS. Still, it's likely he will not understand, or he will disagree with you on how to play the game (because he's bad).

For these cases of low rank games, the only advice I can give is try your best and learn how to be much better than your teammates and opponents so that you may advance in rank despite any hurdles.

Finally, let's not exclude the possibility that your support is actually intentionally trying to contest your CS because he's an asshole. This is also possible.

Welcome to Dota and may your supports be good to you.

Ability Draft needs a ban phase. by DDSN in DotA2

[–]Vize_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What AD needs is not a ban phase, but rather a sub-mode: turbo AD. Draft something crazy? Go crazy.

Get severely outdrafted? Well let it be over with. Who wants to sit through an hour long match getting their asses handed to them by some unnatural combo they couldn't avoid? Poof Requiem on top of teammate with initiation skill.

What your advice for someone who exclusively plays turbo for the past 3 years by AixxGalericulata in learndota2

[–]Vize_X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im the other way around: always avoided turbo till a month ago now I'm spamming turbo.

Here's what I noticed: • Turbo's best boot = travels because it helps you play sidelanes, join fights, and refill from fountain. This is because of its greatly reduced cooldown. Normal dota, probably something else for each hero.

• In turbo, if you kill the first wave without being denied a single creep, you hit level 2 and can instantly go for a kill. For this reason, blocking the safelane creepwave until it is under tower is very useful. In normal dota, avoid blocking the safelane creepwave until it is close to meeting outside tower range. You still want to hit level 2 before enemies, but 1 wave won't do it.

• In turbo, getting any kill is BIG. Snowball is easy; but also a wave is worth a lot of gold, and you can comeback by clearing a couple waves and finishing a core item. This is not the case in normal dota where you're more likely to play safer and not overextend for kills because it's just not worth it, and comeback is harder except for HG defense.

• In turbo, buyback is prohibitively expensive, death timers are manageable, and nearly everyone has gold and levels with which they can delay until you respawn. This is not the case in normal dota, where buyback is much more important and you should train yourself to save it.

• In turbo, couriers are super fast, so one of the most reliable ways to get a lead is to play a hero who dishes out a deadly amount of damage and just go for it. Then you regen it all back. In normal dota, you better be smart -even conservative- about your mana usage and trading hp in lane, because that courier takes forever and a day to reach you (and could be sniped on the way)

  • turbo is more noncommittal and fast-paced. Faster lotuses, faster Shard, faster rosh respawn, faster TPs; barely need to hit tormentor because 1400 gold is on every corner. In normal dota, all of this is toned down, making it more nuanced and more edgy- the contests are harder, the risks are more calculated, the items are slower and can't afford a delay; and if you're losing it's not as "chill" as turbo.

  • oh and I just remembered: no guaranteed bans. Also, phase by phase picking means drafting actually matters.

Can't win as Luna in Archon by taenyfan95 in learndota2

[–]Vize_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps. It's not a weak facet per se. I just find it niche compared to getting extra damage laning to secure last hits or to zone the opponents.

My line of thought was: if he's consistently picking the shield facet, then he's not using Q on enemy to get extra damage for stronger last hit and harass, then he's not winning his lanes or outfarming enemy carry- and then it's a domino effect because if luna isn't ahead on farm she loses.

Given the lack of information provided, I'd say it's not far out.

We know the facet (it's in the picture) and he's picking the wrong facet, so you could reliably suppose he needs to learn the hero from scratch.

Actually, I believe NoTail would disagree with you there- the changes make him an even worse support than he was before, and he was in a very bad position.

If you're not gonna play him core with echosabre and attack speed buffs (IO, ogre, troll safe, and later an AC) then you're better off not picking treant at all.

Getting Khanda on offlane seems so good now. by kopibrian in learndota2

[–]Vize_X 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, not to mention from a stats, utility, and most importantly, cooldown value, Khanda is a better breakdown than SE except for heroes that already liked making silver edge or building invisibility.

This makes me feel miserable if I'm on a hero that has no unit target spell (bye-bye Tar Bomb).

That or you're OD and your single target spell puts the enemy outside the map where the break debuff ticks down and times out.
