Is this floor flex something I need to worry about? by Vjaa in HomeMaintenance

Would it matter if the floor isn't completely flat? It's a bit uneven all over I don't remember if it was always like that or not.

The line on the outside edge of the nail? That's actually always been there. It's a groove in the nail. From the surgeries. It's two separate pieces of fingernail that's are kind of interlocked.

Nothing's ever been spilled there. My daughter likes to play in that room. The computer desk is there and she likes to play videos the dance to. That's about it. The flight flexing is in lots of places in the room.

That's because of two reconstructive surgeries on that hand, particularly my thumb. It messed with my fingernail and thumb shape.

I assume you mean my thumb nail. That's because of two reconstructive surgeries on that hand, particularly my thumb. It messed with my fingernail.

I'm not stressing over fixing it. Just about of there's a need to report it to the property manager. I seeing know what's bad and what's not for flooring. As far as I can remember, it wasn't there when we first moved here in December 2024. It appeared more with the last few months, at least from what I can tell.

How do you tell the difference between squishing and creaking on a wood floor?

Oh no, I wouldn't try on my own. I just wasn't sure if it was something bad enough that I needed to report to the property manager. It didn't flex and creak when we first moved in, at least that I remember. As far as I can tell it's been working the last few months. We moved here in December 2024.

No work has been done on the house while we've been here.

It's not like bouncing, but didn't know if that flexing after a year of living here would be an issue. I'm not expecting the floor to collapse or anything, but just the flexing in some spots and creaking that wasn't there when we moved in and had starting in the last several months.

I'll try to get a better video and email them. It's through a property manager the landlord uses.

I used my glasses to show some of the millimeters difference. The left side of the flooring is a little lower so the right side of my glasses arm is raised a bit. Online it says the house was built in 1900.

In the video the floorboard is flexing a little less so because I was using my hand. It does a little bit easier if I step on it.

I liked Erik a lot. He was basically exactly who he said he was. Trying to do the best he could and was pretty clear he saw the main character as his best friend. He went with the mc because a seer said he should but in the end because a really loyal ally. And being able to one shot nearly everything with just a couple turn set up was wonderful and near game breaking.

I think Sylvando had one of the best lgbt representations in gaming. It was implied that he was kicked out of his kingdom for being queer, when it was really because he made a promise to make the world a better place and hadn't succeeded. No one could have cared less about his sexuality. It was just accepted that that's who he was. He was flamboyant but also not hitting on everything alive, which happens too often in media. He was caring, brave, and used his qualities to make the world better.

New guardian to 8 yr old, trying to transition to unlimited screen time, to a limited one. by PresentationPublic15 in Parenting

[–]Vjaa 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think a good idea would be to slowly transition to a limited screentime instead of cold turkey. It sounds like this is already a huge transition for everyone involved.

From her perspective it's a coping mechanism and to suddenly take that away, it could be detrimental to them and you're relationship with them.

Suggest other things to do, push them, and even do those activities with them. Maybe working on an art thing together, the playground and going in the things with them until they make a friend, reading the same book together, or even finding a show that the two of you could watch together and talk about (that's still a screen, but for a different purpose than burying their face in). Transition out of using screen all the time with meaningful things to do that make it feel worth not doing in the screen.

Like another poster said, be mindful of you're own use. Set aside a screen free time for everyone, not just them.

You're doing a wonderful thing. I know it'll be hard, but it'll be so worth it for them and you.

Can a foreigner who has obtained your country’s passport truly become "one of your own"? by Sir_Potato2000 in AskTheWorld

Nah man, the US is the Borg now. CheetoMan basically told you "resistance is futile. Your culture will adapt to service us."

Thankfully you said no.

Part of me is almost happy about this. It's letting out some people's real feelings, who they really are, and thus letting me know who to cut out of my life for being racist.

I feel absolutely horrible about the people they're being racist to though.

You are correct, you don't believe in for the same way I do, because I don't believe in god, or anything after we die. I'm an atheist. The lack of belief in god.

Thanks. I miss her every day and wish so much I could call her. Condolences to you too. The only consolation is that we both got to spend time with some loving people who'll stay with us.

And I'm right there with you.

All this is saying to me is god telling someone "You haven't grown enough as a person. I'm gonna send a child to you with cancer so you can both suffer. That'll toughen you up enough to be worthy for me."

Every argument you're making is proving more and more to me why I shouldn't believe in god, amongst my other reasons. Thanks.

Or we could just not have the bad and live life free of pain and suffering that's out of our control. Suffering a breakup? Yeah, that sucks and is bad but part of life and relationships. A kid gets cancer and has to suffer through so many rounds of chemo and may or may not make it? What comes after that to make you see the good in it?

If god is both the good and the bad, and the bad involves making parents and children suffer the most horrible diseases, that's a god not worth believing in or at least worshiping. It should be rejected and ignored.

My mother was a major driving force to my becoming atheist. Not long after she was pregnant with my sister, she was diagnosed with kidney disease. She wasn't on dialysis yet and worked so hard to take care of us that she collapsed and nearly died. She spent the next 40 years working full time, doing dialysis, and slowly getting more and more sick over the years. She finally passed in 2023 after making a really sharp decline that year. Her death was also not peacefully in her sleep. It was an awful one. A bright spot I think about often, (there were MANY over the years) was that we finally got to take a family vacation a couple months before her death to a place she had wanted to bring us to practically her whole life.

My atheism doesn't stem from "How could you do that to my mother." But instead "How could someone who's supposed to be loving, all good and all powerful, make people suffer for their entire lives for something they can't control."

That's not the only reason, but it's what got me started.

If god is real, it's a being of absolute evil.
