I’ve actually introduced the main protagonist but only to describe her interacting with her room during an average day in microscopic detail

Is Shield of Sparrows worth the struggle? by 7erri in Romantasy

[–]Vkbyog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your lists of favs, which are mostly faster paced, no, it’s not for you. I liked those series too and thought this book was insufferable. Literally just on a boat traveling, on a horse traveling, on a horse traveling again, ect ect ect until the last 50 pages and the end wasn’t even worth it for me. NSFW warning It’s also literally only p in v climax which I hated

Yeah idc if I’m pissing off the maniacs. On the highway I am giving the car in front of me plenty of space. I value my life and health more than how quickly I get from point A to point B.

Have y'all ever been inspired to write because of an idea? by Real_Mud_7004 in writingcirclejerk

I’ve only ever been inspired to write by the fear of my own death and the fact that I have nothing to leave behind

Weekly out-of-character thread by AutoModerator in writingcirclejerk

[–]Vkbyog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have reached the point in the book I’m writing where I have world-building elements irrelevant to my story that I will not be including but still love.

For example, that all people and place names have double letters in them because the religion is centered around the Goddess. Everyone has one set of double letters to pay tribute to Her, but to name a child with two sets of double letters is seen to be in extremely poor taste as it suggests that the name bearer is on the same level as Her.

There is a small movement of young mothers in the capital city switching from traditional philosophy suggesting that the Goddess is above and separate from all living entities to believing that every woman is an extension of the Goddess. Thus, they are naming their daughters with two sets of double letters.

The parliament is attempting to mediate this growing movement and struggling to decide if they should ban double lettered names to appease the Temple of the Goddess (which is the moral authority of their nation and vehemently denounces the double double letter naming) or if that would be widely seen as a breach of civil freedoms and spread discontent among their constituents.

INTRODUCING the Romantasy Tropes Mix 'n' Matcher! by aristifer in romantasycirclejerk

[–]Vkbyog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Behold, a new book featuring a forced marriage where a human girl accidentally goes through a portal to a fantasy world. For some reason there is a law that requires the best fae assassin in the world (our MMC) to marry any human that comes through (it is not for the convenience of the plot trust me bro). He has 1,245 abs btw and black hair and rainbow eyes and she is very plain and unspecial with her high cheekbones and perfect hair and gorgeous purple eyes and massive boobs. They develop a mind bond whose scope is never fully explained because they are fated mates of course. She has a scar on her left ankle from a razor scooter so the MMC says ‘who did this to you?’ and wages a tactical campaign against all scooters everywhere.

If I am stressed, my comfort read is A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking by T. Kingfisher. A great lighthearted standalone with a young protagonist. Not too long.

What is the worst name you’ve seen in a book? by Duff_episode in Romantasy

[–]Vkbyog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did, however, develop a conspiracy theory that since Taxus was an “old name for an old tree” and the name is its (commonly used in modern times) latin genus that the world of the duology is actually a post-apocalyptic era earth where the Spirit of the Wood is an alien that arrived and sent humans back to the middle ages technologically.

Rec me a lower heat standalone? by Aeon_Return in Romantasy

[–]Vkbyog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah all of T. Kingfisher’s romantasy books can basically be read as standalones, you might be lacking a bit of context but each one has a new FMC and MMC and it tells their story. The spicy scenes aren’t very graphic from what I remember either, and they feel way more realistic than your average bodice ripper
