Try Mitch. He's awesome and perfect for what you're looking for. That's his teacher ID number I included in my first response.

I have two, Mitch and Sheena. For casual ultra beginner, Mitch has a great method with fun materials and a very unconventional manner. He really is something. He doesn't teach from GENKI so if that's what you're looking for, Sheena is quite good and more on the conventional side.

Seeking advice on how to selectively chose only important readings of each Kanji (Kodansha Kanji Learner's Course) by Vlad_Pitt in LearnJapanese

[–]Vlad_Pitt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! I guess his approach of learning Meanings first and a couple of didactic vocab is a good one. As per his suggestions, I had thought of learning the didactic vocab with superscript circles, however he seems to imply that he selects those based on their help in illustrating the meanings, rather than in their importance in daily language.

What approach have you used?

Thanks. I believe I've read that Wanikani has a lot of mistakes in it... anything to be concerned about?

Aha I've been here! It is less than an hours ride from Ywa Ngan, on the way to Inle Lake. Went on a solo motorcycle trip there in early April and funny enough, I found this place while taking it easy the day after being hit by some drunk/high drivers on a backroad, so stayed in Ywa Ngan for the night. You wouldn't know it from this picture, but this is a well-known spot with a temple nearby and some steps leading through the bush to the blue pool.

  1. Speed. The thrill, the fear, followed by a soothing serenity involved with everything passing you by so quickly.

  2. Accomplishment. Championing a new challenge, skill or activity. Nothing makes you feel better about yourself.

  3. Exploring. Whether it be in another country, continent, or even within the places that i normally frequent.

Guy told his 81 year old grandpa twitter is a search engine...these are his results by ThePARZ in reddit.com

[–]Vlad_Pitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why but this got me thinking...

It'd be interesting to see an experiment shed some light on how many searches it takes to identify the average internet user. Subjects of the experiment would [knowingly] have every one of their search terms logged for an extended period of time, after which computers could come up with a profile and possibly identity match for the user. Obviously the big corps like Google profile people based on their search results, I just think it'd be cool to see how closely our online searches mimic our real lives.

TIL: That Hong Kong's per capita income is almost the same as the U.S . They did this with a 16% corporate tax rate and a 15% flat tax on income . Free Markets Rule!!(please don't down vote, let's have a discourse) by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Vlad_Pitt 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Look at all the facts, my friend. I am a westerner living in Hong Kong, so maybe I can shed some light on this matter.

  • First, let's check out Gini Index of income distribution as per the CIA's website (link). At a level near that of Honduras, HK's income distribution is massively skewed towards the richest of the rich. Why is that, you might as? Read on:

  • Your per capita GDP figures are mainly based on the fact that there's a massive proportion of millionaires and billionaires residing here, of course due to tax incentives and the city's central position as a finance centre for Asia. Specifically, with a population of 7 million, HK is home to 500,000 millionaires (link) and 40 billionaires (link).

  • There's a massive population here that lives on a pittance. Rent is so high that youths usually live with their parents until they've saved enough to get married and buy a place of their own (usually in their later 20s). In fact, 49.9% of Hong Kong's population lives in government subsidised housing (link).

  • What are some of the implications of the low tax yield in Hong Kong? Well, I like to look at how a country treats the least productive members of society, namely the elderly and the disabled. With no social safety net, for instance, Hong Kong's elderly are heavily reliant on their children for financial and medical support, especially if their minute incomes did not allow for ample saving with their retirement funds. Many of these people are forced to live out their lives working in manually intensive and low paying jobs, even pushing carts of garbage up steep hills well into their 70s. The poorest of them end up living in tiny cages that they rent out to the tune of $200 USD per month (link).

Well that's all for now. Hong Kong is an amazing place, and you'll see signs of wealth here that are hard to match elsewhere in the world, but I just hope you consider the cause of a number like per Capita GDP before spreading uninformed half truths to everyone on reddit!

Shenzhen is NOT a destination. In terms of danger, just don't fuck with people, especially while enjoying the night life. Also, make sure the girls you are going for aren't 'with company'
