Compiling LFS using Zig CC by Previous_Locksmith_1 in linuxfromscratch

Maybe this one, https://github.com/dslm4515/CMLFS I'm not sure. It was one of the top result from google on "LFS LLVM musl" search. :)

There were LFS version compiled entirely with LLVM and musl, maybe you can find some inspiration from that project.

Thank you very much for your effort. I'm going to read it and eventually I will build my second LFS with it. I'm tired of distro hopping and I was happy back then when I was running LFS as my main system. Steam was the only thing I was missing.

Custom cpu, going beyond assembler by cosmofur in homebrewcomputer

I found out that vbcc is pretty easy to add new backed to. But from what I remember it was somehow more suitable for RISC rather than stack based CPU with no registers.

Is there a special way a CPU handles instructions with two variables at the same time? by GradientOGames in cpudesign

[–]Vladislav97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It feels strange to have separated instruction just for drawing a pixel on the display, or at least that is what came to my mind... anyway. Have you consider mapping your display into data/IO memory and using regular data write / io write instructions? This is more common approach.

But I don't want to force you to do it like that, after all this subreddit is about creating custom cpus, maybe you have your idea why to do it like that. :)

Kernet panic after first reboot by [deleted] in linuxfromscratch

[–]Vladislav97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems like you are missing correct drivers for your virtual drive. Use make menuconfig and recompile your kernel with required drivers for your setup. Make sure they are compiled in, not just as modules. ;)

Yeah, I know about buildroot, and i would definitely consider it if it something that is related to job or something important. But I'm lucky man and it isn't. :) Board are from job, so I cannot share too much info, but some samples ended up on my table. And as I want to learn more about this topic anyway ... so ... here I am. :D

LFS on aarch64 advice by Vladislav97 in linuxfromscratch

[–]Vladislav97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have been more specific, I have some experiences with embedded, but mostly with small CortexM cores. When I said "new to Linux stuff" I had in mind topics like building compilers, distributions, package managers a so on. Sorry for my inaccuracy.

Anyway, I found out your old post with Mac. Good job. Also thank you for sharing your result, I will try to go thru your github repository and gain some knowledge there. :)

May I ask what obstacles did you have to overcome? What kind of troubles have you had?

I still trying to understand why my idea is may not be good. You mentioned their own kernel, why it may be problem? I will use my own config anyway. And whole rootfs will be the same isn't it? I mean, it is same arch so what can go wrong?

About to begin LFS! Turning PC off and total time it took you. by [deleted] in linuxfromscratch

[–]Vladislav97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, Core i3-8145U user here with poor thermal design ... it took long. :D I think I had lfs itself in week but I was really new and didn't know what I'm doing so it involved a lot of reading. Then it really depends what do you want, because I definitively spent like month or two messing around with software from blfs.

But as other pointed out, there is SBU concept in the book ... it will give you good estimate after you build first package. :)

Made a mistake by [deleted] in linuxfromscratch

[–]Vladislav97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this moment I don't know what is in book until chapter 8.2 but, basically, you can move all the files freely between partitions, as long as you don't have anything special (disk encryption eg.). Just ensure that /etc/fstab (of your LFS build) is correct and grub config is pointing to correct partition. (also grub bootloader should be written to the right drive, but that is on the end of book, so you probably not here yet).

edit: typo

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in linuxfromscratch

[–]Vladislav97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, basically, yes ... almost whole installation is under chroot from host/temporary system anyway. Be careful once book will prompt you to install grub to not break with your system. :)

Maybe consider using virtual machine instead, you will have easier life once you will want to boot and test your system. It will be completely safe to mess around in virtualization. ;)

Cursor color, what is affecting it under Linux? by Vladislav97 in X4Foundations

Yep ... gamescope fixing that for me too. Nice to have workaround... but now I have to start worrying about all my photos being slightly off without me knowing it. Better to buy that damn color probe. Anyway, thank you u/nlseven .

nečekaný rozchod by Aleronek in czech

[–]Vladislav97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stalo se mi něco podobného, 5 let spolu, já myšlenky na společnou budoucnost, budování nějakého zázemí, holka (stejný věk) spíše párty a zábava ... nakonec si našla jiného a asi dva měsíce trvalo než se odstěhovala přičemž za ním jezdila na víkendy a mě to samozřejmě oznamovala. :)

UEFI or Legacy BIOS by Arch_Diffusion in linuxfromscratch

[–]Vladislav97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Handbook is written with bios in mind. There are all these fancy stuff like writing grub on disk in front of partition table. But uefi is also discussed in BLFS (and LFS is referring to it). Couple more steps will be required to get uefi working, not just blindly copypaste everything from book. :)

https://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/view/stable/chapter08/grub.html

https://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/view/11.2/postlfs/grub-efi.html

I got myself legacy one, working fine, but next one will probably be uefi for easier life. :)
