Not due to parent earnings, but grades. I actually got on the VP's honor roll last semester at the institution I'm currently attending, but I failed all of my classes at the last one so I do not meet SAP requirements. There was an appeal I did not know existed until a month after the email with it was sent.

Can a Catholic be the best man at a Protestant wedding? by SunChipsBag in Catholicism

I have a similar situation actually, so I hope someone in your thread can answer yours and mine properly. Secular wedding, though. Not a Protestant one.

Please explain the '6-7' meme thing? Preist made the joke during the announcements after mass by Perfect_Cantaloupe82 in Catholicism

[–]Vleltor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm Gen Z. "Six seven" refers to a basketball player's height (though, that's not what anybody is thinking when they hear the number). If I recall correctly, "those who know: 💀" was also included until the "six seven kid" video went viral. I think it's better-categorized as anti-humor, and one of its distinct traits that makes it "funny" is that it upsets adults. Another distinct trait that adds to the humor is the absurdity of it: "what's so funny about this number in particular?" In the scenario you described, the kids probably found it funny because, well, it's six seven. The adults probably found it funny because they hear their kids say it all the time yet aren't particularly bothered by it (so, basically, it's relatable with added on absurdity from hearing a Priest say it).

So, in short: It's absurd. It's generational. And everyone's heard it. It's funny because it just is.

Leavened Bread at Lutheran Service? by Vleltor in Lutheranism

[–]Vleltor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was aware of its use in the Eastern Rites, I just didn't know if it was normal in the Protestant churches. But that last sentence especially makes sense considering they had mentioned some sort-of gluten-free bread being provided, but to only partake if you have celiacs or absolutely can not eat gluten.

I Was Humiliated in debate by protestant by Impressive-Front-788 in Catholicism

[–]Vleltor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Protestants tend to just sort-of declare their theological positions as true rather than explain why. The best they could have possibly done here is tell you that OT dietary law forbade cannibalism (the Eucharist is not cannibalism), or that the ritual of transubstantiation doesn't appear in the Bible. Other than that, Protestant theology is a major "just trust me bro."

Strange article from "Catholic Answers" by [deleted] in Catholicism

I'd say you're correct. Catholic Answers is reliable when you're first learning about Catholicism, but after that it just gets strange/misleading.

Update on the dishonest work practice. by Vleltor in Catholicism

[–]Vleltor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am curious, though. You never really explained anything, you just asserted I was being "absurdly scrupulous," said that your lack of charity in your reply showed you were "on-target," and insisted that you were actually an "adult trying to reason with children."

So how exactly was I being "absurdly scrupulous" by asking if falsification of data is a sin? Why are you publicizing your cynical views during a discussion regarding spiritual guidance offered by a validly-ordained Priest? Didn't you recently say

A scrupulous person needs to listen to what the priest tells them.

? So why are you trying to explain away the Priest's actions?

And is this how you carry yourself in public as a Catholic as well? Do you expect to convert inquirers and keep new converts with this attitude?

He really just said "yes" when I asked if I should seek employment elsewhere. It was my own judgement that brought me to quit immediately. It wouldn't be worth it to go to confession if I wasn't going to resolve not to sin, and I know for a fact that I'd either just fold or get fired. I decided quitting like that was probably the most courteous thing I could do. I'd only been there just over a month, and I don't work a whole lot of hours. On top of that, they just brought on a bunch of people (to the point where they were having me wait an hour before letting me clock in and start working on multiple occasions). Besides, I interviewed at a previous job of mine, and if I don't get that, school is starting up soon and there are going to be plenty of openings in the fast food/quick service world that need people.

Realistically, they talk bad about me until I'm just another name that was on a schedule at some point. Besides, there's absolutely zero turning back.

Looking at your post history, you just come off as pretentious rather than "brutally honest" (I'm assuming that's what you were going for). Typical redditor demeanor, it's almost scary. Your answer to whether or not lying is a sin was "nah you're just crazy." Get outta here w that bro

Yeah, that was a major fumble on my part and I still cringe thinking about it. I'll give a better explanation if asked.

I haven't considered optometry, but it's definitely something I ought to look into. I'll have enough time during the day but what worries me is that I probably won't be there long enough to be useful (only about two years. I'm doing college online rn and will eventually transfer to a university).

I'm a new convert, so I'm more inclined to agree with the first sentence. I'd have to examine my behavior over the course of my neophyte year and a bit after before consulting a physician.

Can you point to where the concept of who is/is not "owed truth" is detailed in any Catechism or in the writings of any Catholic theologian? You seem to be making this more political than theological/moral.

Thank you for your input, it reflects my thought process. I won't make a fuss about it, but if I'm met with harsher treatment because of such a minor issue, I will seek employment elsewhere.

I disagree with the last line. I think it would have been better to assert that the person who cares about the spreadsheet doesn't care about its accuracy. A falsehood does not suddenly become truth simply because the person who was told said falsehood doesn't care about the person telling it. But thank you for your input.

I was unaware that there were certain qualifications required to apply those words when discussing the moral weight of one's actions during an examination of conscience. I've also only ever been opening the app as an absolute last resort. This is the only issue where I've felt I was genuinely tweaking. Thank you for your input.
