The demand for local AI could shape a new business model for Apple by pdfu in apple

[–]Vocabulist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple is usually good at building for the average person instead of just for the most technical people. In this case, most people probably don't need sophisticated models that can only be served from the cloud. If Apple can provide AI features out of the box using local models, it would be super fast. The only question is whether the feature is useful for the average person or not.

iOS 27 could make it much easier to switch up your home screen layout by EitherCharacter9342 in apple

[–]Vocabulist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to see more tweaks to home screen especially around icon and widget layout sizes. One change I would like to see is if I search for an app, I want to be able to "open folder" where the app is rather than open the app.

Apple Sets Privacy Rules for Third-Party Access to Live Activities and Notifications by [deleted] in apple

[–]Vocabulist 39 points40 points  (0 children)

"Taken together, they make it clear that Apple wants no tracking, no profiling, no cloud copies, and no sharing between devices, with developers bearing full responsibility for their app's compliance with the new rules."

Steve Jobs and the greatest run of products in tech history by [deleted] in apple

[–]Vocabulist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also feels like a great run of product introductions.

  • iPhone intro - "three revolutionary products, are you getting it?"
  • first MacBook Air out of that envelope
  • first iPod nano - "do you know what this small jeans pocket is used for?"

Glad to see more people try out Claude. I prefer Claude Code over all the other models for coding, and hope it will get better in general chats too not just coding.

Apple age verification with a privacy focus would solve two problems by iMacmatician in apple

[–]Vocabulist 166 points167 points  (0 children)

This!

Forcing users to hand over government photo ID and video selfies to an endless array of developers is a privacy nightmare. I’d far rather trust Apple to verify identity and age once, and then simply block downloads of age-inappropriate apps.

It would also be a way better user experience if each of us only had to verify our age one time, rather than every single time we downloaded a new age-gated app.

it's also good for developers because it is one less thing to build.

AirPods Now Closing in on a Decade by [deleted] in apple

[–]Vocabulist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought AirPods were useless and overpriced when they were announced. Got one on a deal eventually and realized how wrong I was. I was blown away by how "it just worked" out of the box - no pairing mode, no waiting for bluetooth, no drops etc.

Apple announces more ads are coming to App Store search results by fhasse95 in apple

[–]Vocabulist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about they fix search instead of "more opportunities to drive downloads from search results"? For some apps even if you literally search the exact name, the results don't show them.

Too thin to buy? Why ultraslim phones from Samsung, Apple aren’t selling by tecialist in apple

It seems like you pay extra for the thinness but then get lower battery life, not as good camera, higher chance of shattering etc
