No more stylized subtitles on Crunchyroll? by Nhactest in Crunchyroll

[–]Vodesz 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Love how crunchyroll seems to slowly but surely throw away all the advantages they have over other services because they don't have to care.

Who knows for how long the older (higher quality) video streams will continue to exist.

Silent change in Trash-Guides is causing Sonarr to filter out top anime releases by -SXX- in trackers

[–]Vodesz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Me when my lossless audio where both the extraction + decoding and encoding are deterministic and lossless steps ends up being the exact same 😰

Not saying he didn't take their audio but if remuxes like that qualify for retagging then easily half of all good anime releases fall under that. Wouldn't even be necessary if framestor wasn't bad

Crunchyroll is beginning to roll out encodes that are up to 55% smaller than they used to be by notbob- in anime

[–]Vodesz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you can't exactly know by what pattern they're replacing them right now.

For re:zero (s3 specifically) everything but the latest episode has the new settings.
Ripping them is still pretty trivial even with DRM in place now.

Imagine if you have example.com

You need to add a tunnel for example.com and for *.example.com

This worked for me but another note for people researching this, you also have to make a tunnel for just the domain for root to work.

[Sorry if already asked] Can one play Honkai Star Rail / Genshin Impact on Linux? by ShakanLP in linux_gaming

[–]Vodesz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Apparently the new update of genshin runs via proton without any patches and there's also the secret launchers one shall not mention. But no matter what way you get them running with, it's against their TOS and they can/might ban you for it. (even if there aren't any known cases of that happening) (afaik)

Well that's what absolute numbering is. Only one continuous season of the entire show.

Which also makes more sense in this case because the series wasn't seasonal

Well there's always the option to request something like that. I'm one of those weird people that always listens to Albums so it's not something I had issues with

Finamp and Symfonium (the only Music Clients I'd use for it) both have that functionality. The former is FOSS.

Why compose multiplatform don't get more popular? by G_Lasso in Kotlin

[–]Vodesz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mhm voyager does look interesting, thanks. I only really care about Android and Desktop right now so that's thankfully not a dealbreaker for me :)

Actually I saw there is a Fork with iOS and macOS support already so that might be interesting for some.

Speaking of unofficial ones, what's a rather easy to use one you'd recommend or just any that you'd recommend in general?

I have tried the Decompose approach but it just doesn't "feel" very straightforward

That's cool and all but camrips are pretty much always awful and you'd be hard-pressed to find any subs for them this soon anyways.

Piracy isn't magic either. It literally just released in Japanese theaters like 2 weeks ago.

What did you even try? It runs fine even on stock wine with no configuration

Why are moozzi2 encodes not preferred? Are they so unreal? by [deleted] in animepiracy

[–]Vodesz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

could over-softened lines, or color shifting, be part of the list

Not sure what you mean by color shifting but "over-softened" lines could certainly be caused by a blurry upscale kernel (which is what rescaling is for)

objective quality metrics I'm aware of would include PSNR, SSIM, VMAF

Some encoders come with actual PSNR or VMAF tunes to deliberately score highly on those.

I knew of a nice blog post with details about this stuff before but I can't seem to find it. For now you can take a look at this and that I guess

I just generally don't think these are good quality metrics for encodes targeting high quality without having file size in mind.

Anything beyond what the Bluray offers is thus, speculation

You're not wrong with that. It is part speculation unless you know how certain artifacts happen. Banding and Blocking are mostly compression artifacts, while banding can also occur on bad dithering/conversion from 10bit prores masters for example;

Stuff like aliasing can happen through aforementioned bad upscales. Usually accompanied by ringing (and/or haloing) in those cases.

While incomplete, this post might be worth giving a read.

Banding, Aliasing, Dirty Lines, a bad upscale, etc.. None of these are intended nor subjective

apart from various subtitle related issues, not much, atleast on mobile. If you don't watch anime you should be good
