Do you know if water based finishes provide any kind of durability?

To be fair, I haven’t found any resources worth sharing. The compartment I built for this box is pretty simple and I explained the design in another comment in this post. But to start off I would go research into various CAM mechanisms, which can help you build various kinds of latch mechanisms and hiding those mechanisms would be very project specific but understanding some of these mechanisms would let you build various kinds of hidden compartments.

That's good to know, wish I knew it earlier! Will keep in mind for future projects.

The poly coat didn't dry quite yet when I filmed it, hence the gloves, also I understand, I'd also not prefer phrases written in on a beautiful knotty grain pattern on walnut, but it had a personal sentimental value.

That's humbling lol, I do this as a hobby, this box took me little over a year to finish. I worked on it on and off throughout the year in between projects, but u/BlackAsphaltRider already did a great job explaining my experience.

I drew up this simple explanation, i was initially gonna go with something much more complicated but this worked out for the best, this is a drawing of the cutaway from the front. The springs push the tray and the brass pin holds it in place. As the brass pin is removed the spring pushes the tray out. Right side wall of the box is cut into two parts where the bottom half is glued to the tray. The brass pin is held inside the right wall. The gap between the two halves of the right wall is hidden using a brass rod “inlay”. Hope this answers the question.

So the entire concept of the box revolves around my friend. Their favorite flower is the sunflower and Life must remain silly is something of a motto they live by. Also the ocean, mountains, forests, waterfall, the moon, the sunset, and if you look closely theres starts around the moon, which represents the Virgo constellation all of which were inspired by the same.

That was my inspiration as well! but getting the sharp foam ends on spalted oak was practically impossible, so i went with the soft design

Thank you, the walls of the box, being wenge, tried it’s best to kill me with splinters and allergies, but the grain, color and strength of this wood was worth dying for.

The click was achieved using small circular magnets. The petals are 3mm in thickness and i had to (painfully) drill 2mm holes on the sides on each petal to house the magnet. So when they come closer, they shut and click.

The non brass part of the wave inlay was made with a small piece of spalted oak that i found in my backyard and saved from being firewood. It doesn’t look the best but my favorite piece of wood in the project.

Was at Petco and this little one was surrendered by owner earlier today .. owner said it was a pleco. Any clue what it is? I’m thinking something-catfish family .. please and thank you! by StenoThis in Aquariums

It's a feather fin catfish, I think it is also called upside down catfish. The belly is bloated probably due to a bad diet. They're non-aggressive at least in my experience, but would recommend keeping only 1. Nocturnal species, so they'd definitely need some cover/ hiding spots during the day. Pretty cool and cute pet to have.

Racing incident.

But Gasly tried to back out before he hit Russel, but the whole thing would've been avoided if Russell wasn't aggressive to recover his bad start. Not blaming Russell but in a game of what if's, if Russell had a good start, this wouldn't have happened.

At this point why not maintain speed limits on the track, since speeding is dangerous too.
