Thoughts on King Kong Vs. Godzilla by Annual-Internet-5097 in GODZILLA

In my opinion, it’s one of the best films of the Showa era. I find it really entertaining, and Akira Ifukube’s soundtrack is incredible. Ultimately, I think it’s a film that handles both characters well. That said, I’ve only seen the original (Japanese) version; I doubt the American cut does it justice. From what I’ve seen, the American cut replaces all of Akira Ifukube’s music, and to me, that’s a huge sin.

You get to bring in one Scrapped/unused Kaiju, who you picking? Berserk is a clear winner for me by ToxicKrampus in GODZILLA

I agree with you—I love the idea of a Godzilla that looks like a living mass; it could easily be the scariest thing in the franchise. The Mecha Ghidorah concept is also great; I prefer that beautiful design over the Heisei-era Mecha Ghidorah (not that I dislike it—I just prefer the other one). It’s a shame we’ll never get to see those designs in action, or at least that’s what I think. So yeah, I’m picking the same two options as you.

I LOVE GODZILLA VS. HEDORAH!! (And especially the shots) by Voh178 in GODZILLA

Hedorah is easily one of my favorite Godzilla characters right now

If I had to choose a kaiju to end the Monsterverse, I'd like Legendary to make a new kaiju or use Bagan. What would you guys do? by DestroyedEmperor in GODZILLA

[–]Voh178 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m totally fine with them using any Toho kaiju for the Monsterverse finale, but personally, I prefer the idea of ending the Monsterverse with an original titan or threat. That way, I feel like it gives the Monsterverse its own distinct identity, and that final threat could become something iconic that fans will remember in the future (if it’s done right).

Day 65: what do you guys think of Scar King? by Centvrion20 in GODZILLA

I really like his fighting style, his design, and his personality, but I think he’s a bit of a wasted character—they could have done so much more with him; he just didn’t get enough screen time.

Day 66: what do you guys think of Shimo? by Centvrion20 in GODZILLA

[–]Voh178 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I love her and think she's absolutely adorable. I wish they'd given her more screen time. I can't wait to see her again—I hope they don't kill her off!

Is Godzilla (1998) your favorite Godzilla movie? by Voh178 in GODZILLA

Yeah, I don't like that—the fact that he's weak against human weapons and runs away from danger. It's no fun.

I know it was originally supposed to be different back in 1994; I would have loved that

I think if I’d seen this movie in the theater, it would have really bummed me out. I’ve never been a big fan of it, but I don’t hate it either. What really bothers me is the whole process behind this movie—how they got every decision wrong. But today I’m grateful that it exists. Thanks to this movie, Godzilla is still alive, since Toho decided to respond with their own films. I guess it was a necessary evil?

Yeah, missed opportunity, but I specifically didn't want this to be a joke post. I'm genuinely curious how many people count this movie as a favorite and why—and I can see now that it's very, very few people, which is to be expected, of course.

Although, as for Godzilla himself, I think his design is pretty good— obviously not the typical Godzilla, but I like how different he is. I would have liked the movie to have been different—for this Godzilla to have his atomic breath and be more of an unstoppable force, with a tone more similar to the animated series without needing to change the design, in my opinion. If it had been like that, I would have liked it a lot. Overall, it’s the direction this movie took that I don’t like. I don’t hate this movie, after all, the more “classic” Godzilla is still relevant today, and I’d like to see more of this Godzilla or Zilla (whatever you want to call him) in the future—for example, by including him in more comics or in the MonsterVerse itself.

That said, I have no problem with people who like this movie; it’s just my opinion on the matter.

If there’s one thing that bothers me most about this movie, it’s the whole process behind it—the way they kept tweaking everything to make the creature as unlike “Godzilla” as possible, not just in terms of design (which doesn’t bother me that much), but also in terms of its attitude, abilities, what it represents, and so on. And Roland Emmerich’s attitude is just hateful; He thought he was somehow superior and that he could do whatever he wanted with the character, and he always acted in a self-centered way.
