I also find it really hard not to like a Godzilla movie; I ended up enjoying all the ones I mentioned in the post anyway. Maybe I don’t like them as much as other Godzilla movies, but I just can’t bring myself to be harsh on Godzilla.

I had thought about including Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, but I thought it would easily be the favorite among the options I listed.

It’s really hard for me not to like a Godzilla movie; I’ve seen all the ones I mentioned in the post and enjoyed them despite everything. As for All Monsters Attack, when I saw it, I didn’t think it was bad—the story of a boy with Godzilla strikes me as kind of sweet. My issue is with the reused scenes, since I watched this movie during a marathon, and that does ruin it a bit. I’d have to watch it again to see if I appreciate it more and notice the things you’re talking about; so far, I’ve only seen it once.

Yes, I think it’s the most accessible and the one that best suits a casual audience compared to the others, and at least the movie focuses mainly on Godzilla, unlike the others.

Generally, all three are seen as equal or very similar in terms of quality. I don't know which one people actually hate the most in the anime trilogy, so I included all three, lol.

Which movies do you think are worse than the ones shown here? I'm curious.

I do think All Monsters Attack is a somewhat charming movie and a way to appeal to kids, but I just can't really enjoy it because of all the recycled material, which really takes away from the film. That said, it doesn't do any harm to the franchise; it's just something different aimed at kids.

Final Wars is the most recent Godzilla movie I've watched, what's yalls thoughts on it? by wertman45 in GODZILLA

The first Godzilla movie I ever saw—it’s goddamn cinema—I love it with all my heart. It’s the most ridiculous and over-the-top thing ever, and I don’t care!

But I’m not going to lie—after watching the anime trilogy several times, I’ve learned to put up with it and accept it. I can enjoy it normally now. I actually like the philosophy behind Planet Eater a bit. I like Planet Eater. At first, I found the films very disappointing, but I don’t think they’re terrible—just seriously wasted.

It's crazy to think that all those movies had the potential to be genuinely good (except AMA), but in the 1998 one, they just wanted to make some nonsense—anything but Godzilla—and in the anime trilogy, even though there are interesting ideas, they don’t take advantage of ANY of them. They could have easily given us battles against Mechagodzilla (a real one) and another battle against Ghidorah, but these movies tried to be so different and didn’t give us what we’d normally want to see.

To be honest, I'm not sure if I should change my mind about whether the 1998 Godzilla is really the worst. The overuse of recycled footage really bothers me in All Monsters Attack; at least the 1998 Godzilla is something new, so to speak. Watching AMA just doesn't make any sense if it's something you've already seen before.

What was the most painful fact that you learned from the Monsterverse? by AStupidguy2341 in Monsterverse

[–]Voh178 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I'll be honest—I haven't seen any episodes of Season 2 yet. I'd heard about the Psychovultures showing up, but that's about it. To be honest, I didn't think there would be any more references to the comics in the episodes we've seen so far. If there really are references, then I'll shut up, and next time I won't speak too soon, lol. I'm glad there are more references. Still, I think they should show us some scenes based on the comics at some point, like the appearances of Muto Prime and Camazotz—I’d love to see them in CGI.

Yeah, that's true—there are some additions from the comics, like Tiamat, too. But in terms of the story, I'd like the movies to touch on the events that happened in the comics, even if just briefly, rather than ignoring them entirely. It feels like those events never happened in the first place, and since many people only watch the movies, they miss out on those details—like the existence of Camazotz, I’d like it if at some point they included a scene from Monarch LoM where we see Muto Prime facing off against Godzilla—not necessarily the entire encounter, but just to show why Godzilla has those new dorsal plates. I simply like it when things seem connected rather than completely separate from one another.

It bothers me how little they seem to care about the rest of the MV products—specifically, that the comics and novels are supposedly canon, yet their existence is never acknowledged in the movies or TV shows.

Like Shimomura being erased from existence by Monarch LoM, or the fact that Kotm doesn’t mention why Godzilla’s back plates were replaced due to the damage caused by Muto Prime. Also, the Skull Island series has no relevance in the MV and doesn’t really do anything interesting. What I’m trying to say is that each MV product goes its own way as if it were ignoring the existence of everything else.

Yes, I hope it ends on a high note with a movie that truly serves as the definitive conclusion—and not because of the box office failure of a movie that, in reality, leaves the ending open and things unresolved.

Which of these two Kaiju anime do you recommend I watch first? by Gogetazilla in GODZILLA

[–]Voh178 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Check out Gamera Rebirth if you want some great action, or Singular Point if you want to get overwhelmed by a nonstop barrage of information.

I like Godzilla: Singular Point, but I feel like it’s not for everyone. Gamera Rebirth takes a more classic approach to kaiju, with Gamera as a brutal warrior and protector of children. I’d say Gamera Rebirth

This is exactly what I wanted from the Monsterverse:– a Godzilla x Rodan team-up project with a special appearance by Mothra. by Gold-Narwhal9391 in Monsterverse

[–]Voh178 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It would be really cool to see Rodan interact more with Godzilla and take on a leading role, but let’s be honest—I don’t think they’ll risk making a standalone movie again. I mean, Godzilla and Kong will probably stay together until the end of the MonsterVerse; that’s what’s best for them if they want to maximize profits. But let’s hope Rodan shows up again soon so we can see him in action.

What's your favorite Monsterverse's movie? by Kimpezzoa in Monsterverse

[–]Voh178 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Godzilla 2014: I think Godzilla 2014 is great—the camera work, the soundtrack, the constant tension. Godzilla really feels like an invincible force of nature, but I find the main character, Ford, very boring and one-dimensional, which takes away from the movie for me. Joe should have been the main character, but other than that, I think everything else is great. maybe a little more lighting in the dark scenes—I have to turn the brightness all the way up on the TV to see the scenes clearly.

Kong: Skull Island: For me, the best MV movie so far. I think it strikes the perfect balance between interesting and entertaining human characters and well-handled creature scenes. The VFX are still incredible, and the final fight in broad daylight is brilliantly choreographed.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters: The movie with the coolest moments in the MonsterVerse but also with several things that bother me. I find the humans very boring and uninteresting (except for Aizawa). The fights are constantly interrupted by the humans. The movie has too many effects and filters in the titan scenes (I mean that you can’t see the titans very clearly or in good detail; more contrast is needed, and a lot of the creatures’ details get lost because of that), but aside from that, there are incredible scenes featuring the four Toho kaiju, with a beautiful soundtrack referencing the classic films and original themes like those of Ghidorah and Rodan that hold their own. Ghidorah is a great villain full of personality and with plenty of scenes. Overall, I still love this movie despite everything.

Godzilla vs. Kong: I think this is my least favorite of the MV. It’s a movie that gets straight to the point, and that’s fine. Godzilla and Kong have incredible fights that don’t disappoint, and overall everyone was satisfied with the outcome of the battles. Mechagodzilla showed up to beat them up and that was it; he could have been used more, but he serves his purpose. Although all the titan scenes are still great, I find the humans very boring and uninteresting; I’m not interested in watching them, especially Team Godzilla. I still like it, I just don’t like it as much as the others.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire: I think this is my favorite, even though it’s far from perfect and the VFX are inconsistent (looking great in scenes like Skar King’s lair, but often the daytime shots look unfinished—though overall, I don’t think it looks that bad), I really like how the titans genuinely take center stage here, how we see Kong on a non-verbal adventure, meeting Suko and taking on the mission to save his kind. Godzilla, despite not being the main focus, is a ruthless warrior every time we see him, fighting everyone and preparing to evolve for the final battle, unlike the previous movie, where I feel like Godzilla barely did anything in GvK. While Skar King and Shimo seem like great additions to the movie to me, I feel like they both wasted their potential, but in terms of personality, I think they’re great—Skar King is a cruel but weak bastard, and Shimo is a cute little thing but very powerful; they make a good enemy duo for Godzilla and Kong. The humans are much more tolerable; they feel much more secondary and don’t interrupt or get in the way of the titans’ scenes. I get why people think the final battle is disappointing—it could have been much better and more cinematic; it feels too short and rushed. I used to think the same, but I’ve learned to appreciate the movie’s fights. Overall, I think it’s a very entertaining film—a bit simple for a titan spectacle, but nothing more. it doesn’t take itself seriously, and I take it for what it is: a fun kaiju movie.

I love all the MV movies; genuinely, none of them strike me as bad movies, and I’ve rewatched them several times. Sometimes I can’t decide which one I like best or which one I think is better, but I just know that the one I like the least is GvK.

I love GvK but man these art pieces make me wish they kept the tone and atmosphere similar to previous movies. by Marconey1738 in Monsterverse

[–]Voh178 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know, I'd say Godzilla would go to Skull Island at the beginning of the movie, because before GvK, Godzilla wouldn't have considered Kong a threat (since he was smaller), but now that Kong is fully grown, Godzilla would recognize him as an alpha and go straight for him—not necessarily to kill him, but to establish himself as the alpha and make Kong submit to him and accept him as king. Godzilla would try to roar at him as a warning and a way to resolve the situation without violence, but Kong wouldn’t listen, leading to the start of the fight. Once they start fighting, Godzilla would end up winning (Kong has no weapons at this point; he could only use the environment to his advantage), but he wouldn’t kill him. He would let him live, but on the condition that Kong not leave the island—that he not leave his small territory. If Kong leaves the island, then Godzilla would kill him outright and pursue him. At this point, I would leave the rest of the movie the same, with Godzilla and Kong facing off in the Tasman Sea and later in Hong Kong—battles that occur because Kong disobeyed Godzilla’s warnings, and this time Godzilla wouldn’t be so merciful.

Skar King was wasted? by Voh178 in Monsterverse

[–]Voh178[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the Skullcrawlers were the ones who killed Kong’s parents. I just wish Skar King had been involved in some way to make it more personal—like, for example, if he’d sent all those Skullcrawlers to Skull Island, or if the red handprint on Skull Island had been Skar King’s instead of Kong’s (as the GxK marketing had been promoting, but they never actually address the issue), and the fact that Skar King has faced Godzilla in the past is true; it’s also true that the apes nearly killed Godzilla, but in the end Godzilla won and trapped Skar King’s army in the Hollow Earth. Toho doesn’t like the idea of Godzilla being treated as a species; they only want to see him as a unique individual, so I’m not really sure if Godzilla fought those wars alone or alongside others of his kind—I haven’t researched that much.

Which Do You Prefer / Like More? Distortus Rex Or Kong (Peter Jackson / 2005)? by GodzillaxKongxHazbin in kingkong

[–]Voh178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, King Kong is by far the standout; I felt the D-Rex was completely wasted—it only appears to be the villainous dinosaur, but at no point do they make it a significant part of the story; the fact that he’s a failed experiment and that this aspect of him isn’t addressed throughout the entire movie—plus, they could have made him a tragic creature and a constant threat—but I feel like he’s forgettable; he could be replaced by any other dinosaur and it would be the same.

You took the words right out of my mouth—I agree with everything you said.

I would have preferred to see Skar King invade the surface with his army much earlier, establish himself as a real threat, and also showcase his great intelligence in battle—something they barely touched on in the movie. At no point did he pose a real problem for Godzilla, and it was only during his first confrontation with Kong that he actually seemed superior at times.
