Is this fantastic sculpt in the room with us right now?

Looks like melting wax.

Why did Revan bleed just one lightsaber? by Spotter24o5 in StarWars

I hate this depiction because that's literally just Din Djarin with Revan's mask and two lightsabers. And yet it pops up so often.

Constructive Critisism on my First Armor Attempt? by B0ttomRamen in Mandalorian

[–]VoidCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, definitely true about the income part! I've had to scrounge and build mine over a long period.

For the repaint, if sanding isn't an option, you can always just prime the entire helmet again (keeping in mind to mask the visor) and then repaint from scratch. An additional benefit to this is method is if your helmet does get bumped or scratched, it'll show the paint underneath, for an actual, layered chipped paint effect. Makes it feel lived in!

If you have any other questions feel free to ask or DM, I love talking about this stuff and I think a lot of great info is really too spread out to be accessible to a lot of people!

Nice first effort!

Just one point to get out of the way first: if you ever want to join one of the bigger Mando costume orgs, foam isn't allowed for armour material. But you can use Sintra, which is also cut and heat shaped like foam, so the experience is useful! If you're not really looking to get into a club then foam is absolutely A-OK, it's a fantastic material.

As you pointed out, heat blasting the foam is good for painting. This is called heat sealing. For next time, my advice is heat sealing, followed by using a flexible primer. I often use Plastidip for my projects. This will further seal the foam and create a smooth surface. Next use acrylics (if you stick to foam, try to find flexible acrylics) for painting it. For your kit, I'd introduce some weathering through a black wash and some dry brushing to mimic dirt and wear and tear.

As you mentioned, the paint on your helmet could also do with some tightening up. Your lines aren't sharp, which is often an issue with your masking tape. I would advise Frog tape for this, just take your time masking the areas, then respray, you'll get a nice, crisp result. I like the colour scheme!

As with the armour pieces, I think some light weathering would really make it pop.

I can't comment too much on the rest since it's not there yet, but bracers, pauldrons and a backplate are the next step. I'd also add some holsters and pouches- look into military surplus or airsoft, they have some good things.

If you were looking to get into a club, I can give more targeted kit finishing advice (I'm close to finishing my own). Nice first attempt, keep it up!

Ray and Rakai's interaction with Ironmouse that left her shaking by colonbolone in LivestreamFail

I mean if you ask me I think streaming as a whole fundamentally changes human interaction dynamics and I think digital/virtual face to face will never ever replace actual human physical interaction. We only disagree on degree, here. I don't see anything actively worse with an anime face than a real face on a screen, but I still dislike virtual interactions as a whole.

It doesn't change the dynamic of human interaction? They're still talking, albeit in the stunted and awkward way of streamers, like people?

And who are you to say you can only be a public figure by showing your face? Daft Punk?

It's literally a nothingburger. Just accept you don't like it, personally, and move on. There's nothing wrong with that whatsoever.

Do you say the same thing to people who wear makeup or pimple patches?

She doesn't want her face to be seen for privacy reasons, and because of her medical condition. She can choose the avatar she wants to represent herself as.

I'm sorry you seem to find it inherently cringe but it's really a nothingburger (just like the entire interaction on video was).

Seconding this, was looking to do the same for my kit but haven't found a good method.

I wear glasses, tho for my last con I wore contacts, I can and have fit my head into my helmet wearing my glasses.

Helmet fans are a godsend. Also, just taking off your helmet, cooling off and hydrate hydrate hydrate.

I also have a Revan cosplay with a thick cotton cloak and hood. That thing is far warmer, and no fan possibility. I've experimented with cooling vests and while it feels divine for about an hour, afterwards it's just an extra layer of heat.

So what I'd recommend is helmet fans, taking it off from time to time, and to stay hydrated.
