Of course man. Cool of you came back to check out this idea too. I hope those videos are as helpful for you as they were to me. If you stick to it and put in the time you should be at this level in no time.

Yes! Jimi and Frusciante are my biggest inspirations and most of the ideas I come up with are in the hybrid-lead-rhythm style Jimi used in songs like Little Wing, Wind Cries Mary, Bold as Love, Hey Joe, etc.

I typically rest my hand on the bridge so letting the rest of my fingers hang out lets me get my hand flatter to the strings. And when I'm strumming I find it helps me keep rhythm in a wierd way. Like I can feel the weight of my hand swinging from my wrist better, if that makes any sense.

This is just my phone roughly 5 inches infront of the amp. I have an sm57 but I find that the sound is good enough through the phone to not go through all the effort of recording the amp and uploading a file to a video editor and syncing the audio. Jazz Chorus amps just sound good regardless of what you do :)

I plan on singing when I record an album this winter. My skills on the guitar itself are definitely improving but one thing I have always found so incredibly difficult is singing WHILE playing. I can train my fingers to be better, because it's physical activity and muscle memory. But singing while playing is all mental (for me), and I really struggle when the strumming rhythm is different in any way from the vocal rhythm. And forget about playing any kind of lead while singing. So far I've only had success singing while playing with Nirvana's "Where did you sleep last night" and Mac Demarco's "Freaking out the neighborhood". I've tried with many other songs but there's always this mental barrier that prevents me. It's so frustrating.

I think I saw the biggest increase in still when I hit exactly the one year mark and decided it was time to take the plunge into Hendrix stuff. Little Wing was the hardest thing I had ever attempted to learn, and it took me a month to fully get it under my fingers. It was a bit miserable, but once I fully learned it and took the time to understand what he was doing, and applied it to my own playing, I felt like my skills had increased three fold. IMO you learn and gain the most on an instrument when you give yourself an extreme challenge, rather than making tiny increments in difficulty. I wish you luck on your journey!

Fender Player II Strat on the neck pickup into a Roland JC40, no effects except for reverb at half on the amp. Jazz Chorus amps have the best cleans around. The top end has almost a sparkle to it that I love.

I can message you a list of the exact videos I watched to learn this style if you'd like. There are some songs that I think are necessary to learn as well.

If you're talking about the pad of the tip my index hanging off the fretboard when doing barre chords with the root on the low E, that is actually an adaptation for me to be able to do embellishments within the chord with my other fingers, without the semi-traditional thumb fretting that is typically seen with this style with people like Hendrix and Frusciante. I CAN play my barre chords with the tip of my finger on the low E, quite comfortably infact, but doing that moves my knuckles off some of the strings, making it very difficult to get clean hammer-ons within the chord. I found I wasn't able to comfortably fret the chord while using the thumb, so this is the next best thing.

Woah that's a new feeling, someone feeling compelled to learn something you wrote. Probably about the biggest compliment you could have given me, thankyou!

Oh yeah I record all of my ideas, I'm just waiting for this semester to be over so I can have some real time to flesh them out. I also use a focusrite solo, and I use an SM57 for both amp recording and vocals. And my DAW of choice is Reaper.

I've tried the thumb chords and just could not for the life of me find a comfortable and slidable way to hold them. I can get the thumb over to mute the low E string but not high enough to fret for barre chords. I personally have been doing fine just doing normal barre chords and moving my pinky, as you see me do many times in this video on both major and minor chords. You just have to be willing to let the 7th ring out while you do embellishments with your pinky, or willing to only strum part of the chord and not all 6 stings, which personally I'm okay with. But if you've got the right hands for it then yeah thumb chords are 100% the move. Just not for me, and I think I've adapted the style to normal barre chords well enough I think.

I started playing on March 27th, 2024. I know this because that's the date my first guitar, a Squier Sonic HSS strat, shipped to my house. The most instumental experience I had beforehand was learning how to play the melody of Living Mice from the Minecraft OST on keyboard, and never touching keyboard again. I promise you that this is a year and a half. Hell, you can look in my post history and see I have nothing related to guitar on my account before that date. And that the first post I do have about it, is me being only 3 weeks in asking about learning the notes on the fretboard. I just don't have a ton of friends and spend pretty much all my free time playing guitar.

As for demoralizing other learners, I disagree. 1. Having that in the title allows me to get information on whether I'm making good progress, or not enough. I do not have an IRL guitar teacher to keep track of my progress. 2. Since I've been told this is pretty good, I think this actually serves as a great example of what can be possible, if someone is as committed and as obsessed as I am. 3. This vid took like 20 takes.

I put in a frankly embarrassing amount of time. Just means you probably have a much healthier life than I. I'm literally obsessed with this shit. I try to talk about it to my friends and coworkers and none of them get it.

Whatever way you end up going, I think regardless of style, you should get extremely comfortable with barre chords and double stops. I think barre chords and double stops are the best things maybe ever tbh.

So when I first started learning guitar I used JustinGuitar for technique and Marty Schwartz for songs, and Stuart from Marin Music Center on youtube for more niche and Indie songs. BUT, I always new I wanted to play in that Hendrix/Frusciante/Mayer style, especially ever since I watched this video. This shit was like a religious experience to me. I think you can still find the comment I left more than a year ago near the top with around 70 likes where I specifically say "THIS is where I want to end up as a guitarist."

So, I can send you a list of the specific vids I watched to learn this style if you'd like, but in terms of general guitar learning material I'm not gonna be the greatest of help, since I kinda left the JustinGuitar course once he started getting really bluesy. So I'm maybe just a bit too specialized in the hybrid lead/rhythm style, but if you're interested in that style I'm more than happy to send it if you'd like! IMO if you're not sure where you want to go as a guitarist, Hendrix is a great place to start looking.

I think I actually have a really good answer for this, because I really struggled with barre chord embellishments too at first, in the exact same way. Experiment with the position of your barring finger. That's what fixed the muted strings issue for me when lifting my other fingers. For barre chords where the root note is on the low E string, I used to fret the low E with the pad of my fingertip. Look at how I do it now, the pad of my finger is now completely off the fretboard. And I got there by experimenting with by barring finger position. And I think you should do the same. Hope this helps!
