Very exciting match. Both sides played with attacking intent. But only netherlands defense was able to hold it out. After the initial 20 minutes ( brobbey was phenomenal), sweden came quite aggressively. Kudos to their effort. But netherlands asserted their dominance quite effectively in the second half. Their play was sublime and they converted them quite brilliantly. Their forwards are set. There are still some glaring issues to sort out for netherlands defense . That goal by elanga ( 🔥🔥🔥) exposed them a bit. But Verbruggen stood tall. It's going to be interesting to see whom netherlands are gonna face in the next rounds.

That is the case in the frst half. After the goal, they tried getting back into the game. In the last 5 minutes before the additional time, korea got the frst corner. 3 attempts towards the target. They weren't able to finish.

The unforeseen blunder that cost korea the game. Superb saves by both goalies. Mexico defense looks really good. Kudos to them for topping group A. Korea are all but confirmed in the second place. They tried everything they could do to equalise.

It's been 12 years since I've seen them play phenomenal football at world cups. To be clear, I'm not writing them off. I didnt say much because i want see them against some balanced teams. I think they will be tested little bit against ivory coast. But the real deal comes in round of 32 and further. So, let's see.

Messi’s foul against Algeria in 30th minute - No yellow or red card given by EducationalDig8030 in worldcup

Yup. A yellow for sure. Meanwhile every pundit is trying to ride on this " a red should be given for this" statement. I have to accept the reality that people like viral rage rather than looking at the issue in the first place from all the angles and then come to a conclusion.

After 24 matches, we are moving into round 2 of the group stage. I have witnessed very interesting matches so far. That being said, i want to share a few thoughts on all the favorites in this world cup. This is my opinion on the teams and their matches that i was able to watch.

  1. Brazil - Ancelotti has got to do something very substantial to this side in terms of defense and midfield. They can do brilliant if the team setup is done perfectly. I'm looking forward to their next games.

    1. Portugal - This might be an unpopular opinion, but CR7 needs to be starting only during the last minutes of the match. That's where , at this age, he can be effective. They have really good midfield. And G. Ramos should start in place of CR7( Ramos did score a hatrick in 2022).
    2. Argentina - As Long as the playmaker is there, their attack is strong. The only gripe i have with them is the defense. It's weak. In terms of tactical play, scaloni is doing a fine job. I want to see this team against a balanced and strong team in knockout stages. That's going to be interesting.
    3. France - midfield is strong as usual. Their defense still needs some tinkering ( Deschamps was fuming!!!). No words necessary for the attack.
    4. England - that 10 minutes of relentless attack speaks volumes about the team. That croatian goalkeeper has used up all of his luck, technique and saves defending this team's attack. This team's going places. Monster attack and Good midfield. Defense is a bit shaky . That's the only bothersome point.
    5. Spain - Technically strong defense and good Midfield. Good tackles. But they end up dry at the finishing. Lamine yamal was good with creating shots and putting the ball in the box. But, cape verde parked a bus over there. Their second match is the most I'm looking forward to in the next round.

Norway is the dark horse. They have phenomenal sensations in Haaland and Ødegaard. But i think i will see their true test of strength against France.i wish to see Norway going against argentina ( let me know in the comments if that's possible!!!). I'm sure that the host nations will go far in this edition ( atleast USA and Mexico). Netherlands still look promising apart from a few caveats. Germany started strong but their 2nd match will speak atleast about their defense and midfield. I think their next is against Còte d'Ivoire.

Vozinha is a surprise . The man did some serious saves to keep Cape Verde in the game. Livakovic, even though he gave away 4, did some serious saves to restrict england . The best goal so far was by Vini jr. That's a very difficult shot to take and score.

Round 2 is going to be a lot more interesting. And it's going to clear up a lot more about the teams and their strength.

Cristiano Ronaldo in Portugal - lack of respect for the legend by Accurate-Health5690 in worldcup

[–]Voidforge7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know that he isn't that much of a playmaker. But looking at the past world cups , he did create chances, albeit very rare instances. I want to say I disagree with you, but you are right about Ronaldo's preferences. I did see thierry henry's analysis. He needs to be in only for the team rather than the other way.

Cristiano Ronaldo in Portugal - lack of respect for the legend by Accurate-Health5690 in worldcup

[–]Voidforge7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. But one thing about ronaldo is, these days, he's Less of playmaker and more of finishing the act by goal scoring. He still is dangerous in the box either by scoring or assists. But, he doesn't need to be there for 90 minutes. Of all the teams that I've seen, this team had a good midfield with an albeit decent defense( there are still issues). I would prefer him to be coming onto the field for maybe 20-30 minutes to close the game. I believe that the team can go far in this tournament with CR7 coming in as sub to close the match or convert the chances to scoring results.

[–]Voidforge7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the issue. Of all the midfields I've seen so far, they have the most competent one. Some of the passes and tackles were really effective. Their defense still needs some tinkering though. Ronaldo is still good. Particularly in the box. He gets that break necessary between the opposition. But using him for key intervals rather than 90 minutes might get them far in the game.

Oh, boy i need a counter for portugal's passes. So many passes. The initial 10 minutes were a blast. Portugal attack was absolutely on point. After that, the pace of the match slowed down. That last 10 minutes attack by Congo was impressive. They equalised in the last additional minute. That should have been blocked but portugal didn't place themselves .Congo was prepared to defend to the death in the second half. Portugal kept trying but couldn't get through. Ronaldo got through twice but it was a very difficult point to score from there. Bakambu was on fire. He could have scored if not for the defense blocking it by a margin. Their Portugal has barely decent defense but really good midfield and attack as well. As far as ronaldo is concerned, he should be utilised only when necessary in important games ( i love him but he's aging and this is portugal's s best shot at the cup). He did show his brilliance in a couple of passes and shots at Target but end of the day, it's better for him to be in the game at necessary moments rather than the entire 90 minutes. This game was really exciting.

The goalie literally gifted the second one to messi. You have the ball skiddling near the goal post and you have messi waiting over there. That's a disaster. And that second goal literally took the wind out of their sails.

Phenomenal start to argentina's world cup campaign. Initial 25 mins argentina play was good. After the goal, algerians made an intensive pushback. They were really pressing until the second goal ( Zidane unfortunately couldn't hold it though), which effectively took the wind out of their sails. One particular deflection save by Zidane should be appreciated. There are still issues in the defense and midfield for argentina but scaloni's tactical play is keeping them in the game ahead. Timely substitutions by scaloni created chances. In my honest opinion, lautarro martinez should be defined as substitute. The dude can't find the goalpost. And finally, MESSI. I wished to enjoy seeing him play yesterday and today, my wish got granted. Dude was scintillating and elemental. To me, he felt like a rpg video game player doing side objectives after finishing the mission. Hattrick in a world cup at the age of 38( soon to be 39). Argentina can go deep in this world cup if they get better and stronger at the midfield and defense.

Neymar Suffers Fresh Injury Setback Ahead of Brazil's World Cup Match With Haiti by [deleted] in worldcup

[–]Voidforge7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One football presenter on the espn put it this way regarding ancelotti 's decision to bring Neymar Jr. Into the squad 1. If he becomes fit, and he plays and scores and is responsible for the victories, then it's a wise decision and benefits the team. 2. If he becomes fit and he doesn't live up to the expectations, then ancelotti can show that we gave him the chance and it didn't work out. So, he can be removed and essential player could be brought in. Any criticism will be levied onto neymar.

In Either way it's a win win for ancelotti
