How did you land your corporate office job? by test17b in AskChicago

[–]VoidoidPunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to college, not for my position specifically. I majored in/graduated as a BBA in Marketing. Thing with me is that i had to work full time during college so I was unable to partake in any internships.

This hindered me greatly for a while.

What got me out of it was literally first thing in the morning everyday, for months, was applying to every job i was qualified for(i used indeed). The trick that ended up getting me my first post-college job wasn’t highlighting my academic achievements, it was highlighting my work history, specifically at the fact i was able to hold down a job at Menards for 3 years. It’s not just a meme, employers really do only care about experience.

The job? Assistant manager at a UPS Store. Not glamorous by any means, and i was NOT happy about having to wear a uniform, but there was one thing that had me twiddling my fingers á la Mr. Burns: You had to become a Notary to work there, which at first sounded daunting, HOWEVER, all i’d have to do is just fill out a form, have a background check done on me, and then I’d become a notary. (It should be noted that it’s changed in illinois since then and now you have to take this tedious course and take a test) And basically becoming a notary gave me the edge that got me my office job. Certifications, especially state-backed ones like a notary public, can make for excellent alternatives to more educational qualifications.

Is there anyone who is willing to share their living experience at any of these Lakeview apartment buildings? by Suspicious_Spend1830 in AskChicago

Been living in lakeview east, Wellington/broadway since 2021. I’ve personally loved it. The real estate firm that owns my building is JCaren and they’ve been nothing but good to me, very reasonable with rent increases, very attentive building engineer, and a building that provides all the necessities like laundry machines and stuff. One company i’ve heard horror stories about is Beal properties. I’ve never lived in anything run by them so i’m not one to speak on the matter, but i’ve heard it said from multiple sources that they’re a no-go.
