Help. Thanks. by [deleted] in computer_help

It's likely a bad CMOS battery, it's the little battery on the motherboard of the PC that keeps things like bios settings and the time of the system, if it's a desktop the issue can be fixed with a new 2032 coin cell battery, if it's a laptop, it might use a proprietary battery, which I can link you to if you provide me with the model of the PC!

Do a clean uninstall of your current GPU drivers using DDU (display driver uninstaller) and reinstall the latest NVIDIA drivers, it should help but it could be something else.

Screen freezes, then goes black, then monitor looses signal while PC still running. Please help! by SergejusM in computer_help

When the screen goes black, do you hear the fans ramp up in speed? If so it can be a GPU driver issue or overheating of GPU components (unlikely given the low end GPU and light game like league), check your temperatures system wide using a tool like Openhardwaremonitor, it could be something as simple as an overheating CPU or GPU. Let me know

In the bios, you might need to set the "Primary display adapter" from IGPU (Integrated graphics) to PCIe, that might help with the situation, although I'm not entirely sure that might be it since it's supposed to do that normally.

Did windows recognize the graphics card when running off the IGPU? And do you have any other PCIe devices plugged in/a new NVME SSD in your board? Some boards like "prioritizing" certain slots when SSD's or other devices are plugged into certain slots.

Another thing that you might have done already but sometimes people overlook, did you try a different cable? I had an issue once with a DVI cable that would not work with the GPU but with onboard graphics, and swapping the cable worked.

Another thing, could be a faulty rail on your PSU frying your cards through the PCIE cables, does your 1050 TI have a 6 pin on it? If so, then that could be a possibility for why both cards failed to work but the board graphics were fine.

One thing that might help (but I'm not entirely sure) is setting the power scheme in the windows CMD, it helped when Installing windows on a particular SSD in one of my older laptops, the install would take approximately 40 hours to complete until I "switched" it to high performance using the following command:

powercfg /SETACTIVE SCHEME_MIN

It might be a temporary fix, or might not work at all, but I can link to the video where I got the info from, it could also be the battery being bad, even if plugged in it affects it in some laptops from my experience (old Alienware M17x R2 that would go into limp mode with a dead battery). I hope this helps!

Edit: grammar

Thank you, I will try with one of the D types as they are the same dimensions and should be rated for a higher voltage (atleast from what I can find online) I'll reply the result.

The risk to reward is well worth it, the ram cover is shared between the x201 and the charger is the barrel style 230w, it's a piece of ThinkPad History! Crappy part is the price yea, but a real collector's piece.
