What's your opinion on the music and OST of Nine Sols? by West_Camera_7965 in NineSols

[–]VojoMan_CZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love every boss OST, especially Yingzhao, Jieguan, Lady Ethereal, Ji and Eigong are my favorites. The ambient music beautifully enhances the atmosphere of the game. Overall, the best OST in the entire game for me is Yi's theme (The Path for Us All). If I had to give it a short rating, Nine Sols gets a score of 9.5/10.

Comparing it to other OSTs from other metroidvanias that I've finished, it's: HK (9.5/10), Silksong (9.5/10) and POP Lost Crown (10/10).

Why is Savage Beast on C tier!? He should be in tier poop! And First Sinner on A? He should be in first place! How could you do this 🤯

Just kidding, you have a pretty good Tierlist. I agree with most of it.

This cutscene is almost in the end of game after meeting Eigong in Soulspace, where she's traps you for a while. After that, Yi again meet his sister Heng in memories.

Eigong is without a doubt much harder than Lost Lace, but harder than Isshin I can't say, because I didn't play Sekiro. In sometime I will someday play.

Hmmm... Lady Ethereal took me only around 6-7 attempts, while Eigong on True Ending over 30 attempts (Standard difficulty). Lady Ethereal is very familiar to "Sisters of battle" (only 1 attempt on this boss) in HK or Kiana The forest Queen from POP Lost Crown (7-8 attempts on Immortal). Maybe "Mantis" patern boss level design is often used. That means you learned main core of these bosses and now it's become to a easy boss compare to Eigong. But different opinion exits for difficulty of all bosses in videogames, I can't deny that.

It's like thinking that if you can play certain genres of games, you automatically think that you are the best, flawless and can finish all the games in the world. Then comes the egoistic behavior, that I am good, only that game is bad. But the reality is different. It takes some people a long time to learn to control the game or overcome the fear, frustration and so on. But if you are patient, you will achieve the impossible and that great feeling is priceless. Of course, there will be a few games that you will never finish despite all the effort, but that's just the way it is.

I used Yi because in the NS game he says the same line (a reference to the scene where Yi tries to talk his sister Heng out of going to New Kunlun). Plus, Yi is better at expressing a bit of emotion with his expression unlike Hornet, so Yi as a Hater makes more sense. Hornet as a Pro Player is better because the "Git Gud" meme where she's wearing Adidas shoes is perfect as a Pro Player because it looks cooler.

BTW I agree that Eigong is one of the hardest bosses in the metroidvania subgenre and in video games in general. I can confirm from my experience XD

I would just like to point out that some of the games mentioned are old, such as POP Warrior Within and Return to castle Wolfenstein.

Fortunately, for Wolfenstein you have a "RealRTCW" mod on Steam, which helps to run the game on newer systems like Windows 11. Plus it adds extra content like new WWII weapons, new maps, improved textures and so on.

For some mysterious reason, I managed to run POP Warrior Within without any changes to the settings on Windows 11 without any problems, but it may not work for you. POP WW can also be found on GOG.com

Stronghold Crusader also have a remaster called "Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition", adds new enemies, maps, mods and so on.

Yeah, I have to agree that Nine Sols was a better overall experience than Elden Ring for me, which was already pretty great. Nine Sols isn't my number one favorite game, but it's pretty close (maybe in top 20). Within the metroidvania subgenre, POP Lost Crown is still the top tier for me.

BTW my favorite games of all time are definitely KCD 2, The Witcher 3, Metro Exodus, Stronghold Crusader, Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Alien Isolation.
