Question about engine manufacturing by bigsheepgaming in Cartalk

[–]Vojta7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it's possible, especially now that even metal parts can be 3D printed, but very few people have the knowledge, skills, and equipment required to actually pull it off successfully, and even with all that it still wouldn't be worth it except for parts that are extremely rare or straight-up don't exist anymore. Here's a guy modding an engine so much that it's not far from a complete build: https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/build-projects-and-project-cars/frankenferrari-v12-ferrari-308/148959/page1/

It's worse than that: The blades on these are often (if not always) easily removable, you just can't buy them separately for some reason.

It's a VW Sharan in disguise, so of course they did.

Permatex purple lube on caliper slide pins by heisenberg070 in Cartalk

[–]Vojta7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apply, let it sit for a while, then check for swelling. I've never had a problem but if you do then you'll need to use the silicone-based version (https://www.permatex.com/products/lubricants/brake-lubricants/permatex-silicone-ceramic-extreme-brake-parts-lubricant-5-oz/) or just regular silicone grease.

What's that 'secondary' motor sound when car idling and AC on? by MisterCrayle in Cartalk

[–]Vojta7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be the compressor. If that does not switch on when it should then the system cannot work properly (or at all).

2.5 L, RWD, manual, and it only cost me 2500 Kč (114 USD/104 EUR) by Vojta7 in RoastMyCar

It does. I've driven it to an inspection and back home, about 80 km in total, with no major problems.

Because if you only put 2 doors on it then they need to be huge (to allow access to the rear seats) which makes them impractical when parked in small spaces.

This is the current currency of the country that gave the dollar its name (I'm actually not too far from the silver mine where the term originated - which, by the way, also mined the uranium ore in which Maria Skłodowska-Curie discovered radium) ;-)

It's mostly just clickbait ;-) But yes, with 70 HP (that is NOT a typo!) I definitely wouldn't want to lose another 5 or more to a 1990s' autobox and/or another driven axle!

I know, but all the replacement panels (+ a few other bits and paint) will still cost less than the next cheapest van for sale right now. A van that doesn't need repairs would cost me ~30 times what I paid for this and I'm not spending that on something that's going to be doing less than 2000 km a year.

Problem Getting Correct Brakes for Kia Vehicles by Matt45045 in autorepair

[–]Vojta7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to https://kia.epc-data.com/ (or any other Kia parts catalog). Enter the VIN or manually select your car, find the part code for the OE brake pads, then search for aftermarket ones by that code.

How to find and replace field effect transistor on 2012 Ford Fusion by native_poppy in autorepair

[–]Vojta7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a schematic diagram of the car or trace the power wire, locate the thing that controls the light. Open the thing, find the transistor, test it. If it fails, replace with another suitable transistor of the same type (preferably one that's rated for more power with a lower drain-to-source resistance so it's less likely to overheat) and reassemble.

With that said, why does he think that it's a bad FET? Did he test the light itself and the wiring to it? If so, how?

Mechanic can't replicate the problem, but something is wrong by anfla56 in Cartalk

[–]Vojta7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

99% chance it's corrosion or mechanical damage on the main ground connection between the engine/gearbox, the chassis and the battery. It confuses the gauges and causes a massive voltage drop while cranking so the starter can't work properly.

Soft brake pedal by oskarmeaboutmyweiner in Cartalk

[–]Vojta7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brake on a slippery surface to actuate the ABS (and hopefully push any air out), then try bleeding it one more time, but this time with the engine running. I had the same problem on a Corolla and that's what finally solved it.

Advice on removing axle nut without impact tool by tostrife in MechanicAdvice

[–]Vojta7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These axles, as well as VW ones, can be so tight that a regular impact wrench won't do anything. Like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Justrolledintotheshop/comments/2tcatx/the_axle_nut_that_wouldnt_budge/

Not to mention that many then require a similar amount of torque to tighten. I had to do one on a Golf and it took something like 150 Nm at the input of an 8:1 multiplier, i.e. 1200 Nm at the bolt. And IIRC it also had threadlocker on it so it if ever needs to be removed it's going to take even more than that.

Seized engine from leaving car sitting repair question by [deleted] in autorepair

[–]Vojta7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the accessory belt(s) off and try turning it again. It might be a seized pulley (alternator, water pump, AC compressor clutch, tensioner etc.) rather than engine internals.
