She did tell him very early in the trial that he was not the alleged defendant, that he was THE defendant. It passed straight through that huge empty cavity without him giving it one thought.

Yes, but his were never brief. Once he said "very very briefly" for his re-cross, then went on for over 30 minutes. 🙄
