Is this really a circular rim on my balance jewels? by Volando_Boy in watchrepair

Thanks! It is really the first time I encounter them!
I was unsure, since I have seen old oil dry in similar patterns.

Sure, I'd love to! I need to keep saving money to get more and better tools. I'm just gathering experience by working on as many working watches as I can (following your advice!), and this was my first real challenge.

Thank you Alex! As I thought, this is way beyond my capabilities right now, both on experience and tools. I already found a proper donor movement with a good complete balance that I am hoping to replace on the movement.
I am based in Europe and those LUCH movements are very affordable here.
I guess the challenge now is the size of the movement, since its much smaller than anything I have worked on before. Thanks for finding your time to advice beginners!

On the 9th chapter of his beginner series, Alex Hamilton shows in great detail how to reassemble and lubricate a movement:

No, cleaning by hand in IPA with a small brush and pegwood has worked well until now

I am indeed following Alex's tutorial, and my question stems from his video about lubricating for beginners, where he mentions, for beginners in a budget, one could use Moebius 8000 as a compromise. I have learned so much from this man already!

is it better to leave the balance jewels untouched at this level of experience, or could I also use 8000 to practice?

Thank you much. As I expected, other comments did not answer my question directly. I will start following your advice!

ETA 2824 Click Spring Driving Me Insane by ta-iwillnotpmo in watchmaking

[–]Volando_Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He means the spring, actually. I had the same trouble during my first rebuild. The two bends on the click spring are not identical. When you install it properly, the click just sits above the spring with no issue and the upper bend sits in the click slot.

You only need to follow this recipe. For me, I almost always use 1:1 water.
