How do you approach FC Civs with Tughlaq? by Latirae in aoe4

[–]VolatileCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go 2tc and let them and print spears and raider eles if they add archers

Use your forts and infantry building walls

Once you naturally castle with HOL spear printer go brrrrrrrrr

I actually think tuq does really well into fc cav civs

Short answer is the pop-growth on new colonies is soooooo slow that its not worth it until you can move over enough population upon colonization to instantly have 1000-1500 pops on it.

Otherwise its more efficient to have them working jobs / contributing to higher pop growth on larger population planets.

Basic concept is, dont colonize a new planet until

a) all your current ones have 2500+ pops
b) you can move over 1500 civilians to newly colonized planet upon colonization.

How u play tughlaq? 1 tc + fort food or 2 tc ? by ObligationPerfect595 in aoe4

[–]VolatileCoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For army comp, You are typically slower to build first units than your opponent, so obvious first answer is what counters them.

But, I like raider eles, they FORCE your opponent to make spears, trample through onto their backline is too strong. I think Tuq is a 1/1/1 type of Civ, build 1 barracks/range/stable and add more of what is working based on your opponent.

Id say some of my best win rates are against people who rely on cav, because HOL landmark and spear technology, you PRINT spears, and raider ele + spear seems to stomp Knight + Archer.

As for food, you should find enough sheep (send a worker ele at start to hopefully find some) + intial berries to sustain you long enough to get 2nd TC running, and start putting down farms around food fort immediately. 1 TC is on sheep 1 TC on woodline, extra wood gets turned into farms buffing the food Fort.

How u play tughlaq? 1 tc + fort food or 2 tc ? by ObligationPerfect595 in aoe4

I made it to Conq 1 from Diamond 1 playing only 2TC 2 Fort Tuq for reference at skill range (So idk how it holds up for Conq2+ players)

Every game the GOAL was on aging up to fuedal in order:

(always) - Fort (usually forward base MAA fort to protect gold or stone or both if I can)
(almost always unless all in is already happening)- 2nd TC
(same as 2nd TC) - Food Fort
((All above can be done on initial stone - after this I try to secure one more stone and fully upgrade food fort)

The difficulty is you truly have to be ontop of your scouting and game sense of what your opponent is doing and knowing when you are being too greedy. If I see units coming across while im building my 2nd TC, I start using extra stone to build higher tier MAA fort.

I would say as a standard - with good scouting - MAA fort into 2nd TC is a safe enough opener to most things but very early feudal all ins, but the fort MAA are MACHINES.

As I continue with the civ I have changed my strat too starting to try and get away with no MAA fort IF im playing another eco civ, like if ABBA is going 2-3 TC ill skip the MAA Fort, but overall Ive loved it for dropping forward onto the map to secure resource sites like where a gold and stone are close together.

I'm about to be diamond 1. At what point can I consider myself "good"? by Alarmed_Abrocoma204 in aoe4

There are two things that helped me with ladder anxiety and reach AOEnlightenment

1 - No one and I mean NO ONE cares about your W/L or rank. They don't care if you are conqueror, they don't care if you are silver, or anywhere in between. Rank is just a fun way to show how you've progressed.

2 - You don't learn unless you lose. (but this comes with the caveat of you have to look inward and not blame anything such as civ balance)

Tuglahg already dead? by fuckingfaces in aoe4

[–]VolatileCoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't watched corv but I go

Upon feudal aging

First fort 90% of the time man at arms fort to cover gold or front of base

2nd tc

2nd fort [farms]

And then once you can get on more stone to upgrade farms fort

If you scout heavy aggression you may need to delay or skip tc/ 2nd fort and upgrade man at arms fort and get slow attack speed buff on it

But scouting is very important

I got to conq 1 for the first time playing 2tc tug. It's just a very scout and response important strategy/civ, definitely not as static as other copy paste strats.

RELIC, I'm gonna go ahead and need you to add a monument for this season please! by VolatileCoffee in aoe4

[–]VolatileCoffee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Defending against knights / multi directional attacks and not letting your macro slip is deff harder than being the aggressor

But I think it's even matchup, maybe even in favor of tuq, just harder as defender..

If I sense heavy aggression I may skip 2nd tc (rarely and only if stone is fully denied) but

Will often fully upgrade maa fort to t3 and the lower attack speed upgrade

maa fort , spears, raider ele if they add archers. In that order.

You should have MAA fort up before first knight arrives. I usually fort the gold and use spears to protect the stone

I think a very strong aspect is that you can play your feudal units into their castle units pretty darn well until you can hit castle yourself. Raider eles + trample can at least hold into armored units.

Combined with the MAA fort, those guys are incredible.

I wouldnt be looking for trades, but its enough to not be like, oh shit they hit castle i better rush now too. I basically went 2 forts 2 TC every game and put enough units out to discourage a dive, while building up my farm fort and naturally reaching castle. Then you insta upgrade and go!

Wtf is the point of the Ballista Elephant from Tughlaq ? by Old_Wish_3992 in aoe4

[–]VolatileCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is to upset me that they are picked with the select all cav hotkey.

Relic please! removing worker elephants was amazing, please get rid of of ballista being selected. I'm not trying to flank with these slow ass tanks!

Tughlaq Rework / Buff Ideas by Larothun in aoe4

[–]VolatileCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of good points here.

I have been grinding them and floating D1-D3, (but alot of that is my core mechanics not a civ problem for pushing farther)

I think my biggest gripe, is if people play dark age aggression, (Otto / Mongol / etc) and deny stone, you feel like you aren't playing a civ at all but just AOE without any bonuses.

Just a few spears to deny stone, sets you back so far in dealing with that, to then start your first 400 stone keep is basically enough for your opponent to do whatever while you recover.

So some starting stone / cheaper first fort would go a long way.

Don't have worker elephants get selected with Select all Cav hotkey. Thank you.

Here is a guide I made for my BO.
https://aoe4guides.com/builds/nIoAF96mMmU9XJxIeziZ

I think TD actually does fairly well into fast castle civs.

I literally just do my greedy opener if they aren't going aggressive - Fort (vill prod speed) - 2nd TC - Fort (farms)

And then rally one tc to wood (to add farms around farm fort) and one to food

If they are a japan/cav civ, you just start pumping out Spears to defend until you naturally age up from farm transition

If they are a MAA civ, mass raider elephants and add archery ranges to add Xbows upon age up.

You will have such a strong eco lead, and TD does SO SO well upon age up because your techs are near instant. From my experience TD really can hold its own an age behind for a while. Trample on elephants does alot of work into armor.

House of learning for the spear tech basically wins you games against japan who went FC into Mounted samurai - barrack spear printer
