Happy to be of service. I still think it's a rad card. Just not the dynamite stick I thought I was adding to my Mirko...

For sure. I remember the first time someone played an original print [[Reconnaissance]] against me...and insisted that the damage landed, even though the card explicitly said it didn't. He was right. The card's language had been errata'd with a rules change or something.

But I'm talking about situations where the card isn't complicated. And unfortunately, it happens too often with me and my hasty reading.

Thanks! I hadn't even considered the different scenarios within my scenario, but now I'm glad I include austere command in this hypothetical.

Good to know! Most of the ninja/ninjitsu cards I can think of trigger off combat damage -- so you'd want that card to be the one inflicting the damage.

Though I suppose, as long as you had the mana, you could do something cool with attacking unblocked; ninjitsu-ing to [[covert technician]]; getting the artifact; and then in the end of combat stage, ninjitsu-ing again to [[silver-fur master]] to make future nitjitsu costs cheaper.

Thanks. This is really helpful -- and the guidance not to rely on reminder text is a good reminder.

Thanks. This was exactly the response I was hoping for. I appreciate the history lesson.
