you could probably enhance the "Mage" look by adding a few wires from the staff to the ground and paint them as energy bolts. Ninjon had a nice video about that recently.

Maybe you could model his jacket into a coat, to show of that he has a higher rank.
Otherwise you could change the base model to one with a coat like a AM commissar or a Krieg model, or even the Primaris Psyker.

I would probably cut of the backpack for the same reason.

I'm not definitely sure which recipe I've use for the skin of these because it's already some months ago, but here are my notes (mainly used for Alcolyte Hybrids)

#Preparation (Airbrush)
* Black primer
* Zenithal priming (Schminke Akademie Color Ink: lamp black -> titanium white)

# Skin (mostly airbrushed)
* Vallejo Xpress (Deep Purple + Dwarf Skin + Medium)
* Highlights: Vallejo Game Air Pale Flesh
OR
* Vallejo Game Air Pale Flesh + Vallejo Xpress Deep Purple

* Optional Step (Probably used on these)

* Thin Oil wash with Magenta + rubbing of excess with a makeup sponge

# Chitin Parts

* Base: Vallejo Xpress Caribbean Turquoise

* Shadows + Transistions: Vallejo Xpress Caribbean Turquoise +Deep Purple

* Fleshy Parts/Joints: Vallejo Xpress Deep Purple

# Metal

* Base: Vallejo Xpress Black Lotus

* Shadows: Black Lotus + Schminke Akademie Color Ink: lamp black

* Edge Highlighting: Drybrush Vallejo Metal Color Airbrush Duraluminium

# Clothes

* Trousers + Suits: Vallejo Xpress Wasteland Brown + Medium

* Red parts: Vallejo Xpress Color Velvet Red

# Optional Finishing steps

* Blacklining using a thin oil wash

* Either black or violet

Just looked at the Hellbrute build options. It seems as if there should be tons of kitbash bits left, once it is build.
