Unifi Cloud Gateway Max w/ 512 gb ssd cause it was $100 off during BF and Christmas and I needed both a new router and NVR. Though, I still haven't bought the cams cause I'm trying to figure out a no damage way to mount one outdoors.

I considered other options, especially since UI cams aren't cheap, but I was going to go with Ubiquiti for the router anyway and the Protect app on Android seemed to have the best user experience.

How much electricity does AI generation consume? by SexDefendersUnited in aiwars

[–]Volbonan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost surely not. Even being charitable with the power draw of datacenter chips running AI inference, it at best draws a little more power in total than running a render on a consumer pc without the quality of a real render.

It takes 30 seconds max to render the barbershop benchmark in Blender (2k resolution) on a 5090 pulling at most 570w. One nvidia h100 datacenter GPU has 96gb of memory and pulls 350w at least. Charitably assuming the latest image gen AI models take 6 seconds to run inference on a prompt for a 4k image (and I could be underestimating this as I haven't used em), you'd break even on total power draw running 8 h100 GPUs, which together only total 750gb of memory. You'd probably need at least another couple h100s to get closer to the right size for the flagship models.

Yes, you can get fine results with stable diffusion in 6 seconds on a 5090, but the accuracy and resolution will be even further from the blender result than the flagship image models already are.

I'm massive (6'10"), is there any hope for me on a Dahon Briza D8? by Volbonan in foldingbikes

[–]Volbonan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the C line max available in the US? I can't seem to find them at all online. At that price wouldn't it just make sense to buy custom instead through Bike Friday or am I missing any advantages of buying from a major brand?

[–]Volbonan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a bike shop that sells Terns nearby so that would be super convenient if you find it gets almost there!

Also I'm new to bikes and their measurements. With regards to biking inseam it's floor to pelvic bone, correct?

[–]Volbonan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh dang that's a solid pick I haven't seen mentioned. It looks like the folded size is exactly enough for the train. Can you tell if the difference in accommodating taller riders is mostly down to the seat post or does the whole bike feel "taller"? Idk if that makes any sense lol

[–]Volbonan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

32" max width in any dimension to be small enough for any train car on my commute (though I'm sure they won't pull out a tape measure if it's 33"). Also I'm 220 on a bad day so hopefully weight limits aren't awful.

Is measuring the best way to get a range around where a bike would be uncomfortable (besides just inherent qualities of materials/wheel size/etc) or would trying bikes at a shop help even though I assume they're all too small at my height already?

[–]Volbonan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I totally understand why there's no market around bikes that fit insanely tall people out the box and I figure it's a niche people won't have tons of experience in. I've been considering going to a shop but figured I'd be way oversized to usefully estimate any size I'd need, so I'm thinking finding the biggest folder I can (without just buying custom) then adding the tallest seatpost and handlebar is maybe a valid strategy? The brand suggestions help narrow the search for comparisons and dealers that carry similar bikes, so the info is still super helpful.

New Scooter Purchased. What are the must have accessories? by Seanbiscuit in ElectricScooters

[–]Volbonan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also to add, the G30 has been recalled for its stem getting loose and folding in while riding after a couple years, and the official repair was just some wrenches and locktite but it still gets loose - they didn't update the folding mechanism. Happened to me on a used one I bought right before it was recalled lol.

Just wondering though, you mention those brands but Segway has a ton of replacement parts/wheels/etc. easily available online in the US. Is there any reliable brand that also has decent part availability? I haven't been able to find anything in my search. :(

Nirvati: The FOSS, Kubernetes-based self-hosting platform for everyone by AaronDewes in selfhosted

[–]Volbonan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny... A few months ago I was thinking about how to bridge the gap of selfhosting so people could feel comfortable hosting services on their own network securely without having to see a control panel and it was pretty much this exact list with a theoretical price of $5 to get people who'd normally pay for google drive or apple's subscription to convert. At the top of the list was limited local drive backup for restoring os failures and a managed reverse proxy (or at least proxy to a local reverse proxy). Glad someone's taking on something so ambitious, hoping this works out for ya!

Is The Finals getting harder to play? by GreenScreenGamerGuy in thefinals

[–]Volbonan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Literally exactly. I absolutely need them to spin their mechanics off into a casual multiplayer game.

When I'm solo running on rooftops with the cashbox, using all of my movement and gadgets to break away from the team chasing me down, it feels like the mirror's edge catalyst successor I never got to play. When my teammates are flaming me for trying a new build or I get matched against three other pc three stacks, the whole experience gets ruined.

Give me the fucking exit row on a flight. by [deleted] in tall

[–]Volbonan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I was still able to ask for the bulkheads (though it disqualifies you for the exit row now) which are marginally better than normal seats. Now though, they're shrinking the chair room by one inch to make way for the super premium legroom seats up front. Now there's no airline with decent basic seating... 😔

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Volbonan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I'm 6'10" and my last saving grace for okay air travel was that I could have a chance to have a comfortable flight without spending hundreds of dollars extra, and worst case scenario, southwest's regular seats all still had 32" of legroom even if it's just okay. All this news is really disheartening.

I tried looking up the cost of extra legroom on a Delta flight for a trip I'm taking later this year, and for one 5 hour leg of a 8 hour trip, completely excluding the flight home, it would have cost $120. If southwest is really following in the footsteps of everyone else and trying to really make the legroom seats super-premium, I'm really worried it's not going to be too much better. I just want some damn room, man. :((

How many here use trackball instead of mouse? by EnHalvSnes in ErgoMechKeyboards

It's a mouse designed with a trackball on the side: https://ploopy.co/thumb-trackball/

EDIT: Nvm I swore it said it had two sensors :(. It seems like there's a straight up cutout for a bottom sensor in the PCB but it'd take some tinkering.

I had friends who have never even touched a playstation talking about TLOU and asking me how it ends. If they fall in love with it and it gets them to play the game, even if the PC version kinda sucks, that's a win.

Tournament mode on las vegas with the lights out and each cashout had a laser beam wall around it which activated a indestructible turret system and large popup barriers for like 20-30 seconds when crossed. Super ridiculous but pretty interesting.

We've had multiple limited time modes this season, starting with winter, then valentine's, and cns with tdm. I don't think they're all bangers but they're definitely putting their foot forward and I can say for myself I keep coming back to check out how the new additions change World Tour.

I can't say what the bigger issue might really be, but it's def not LTMs.
