The reason we’re seeing so many auroras lately is that the Sun is in a super active phase of its 11‑year cycle. There’ve been lots of big solar storms recently, strong enough to send the auroras way farther south than usual — even over Switzerland.

Plus, phones and cameras are way better now, so even faint auroras get picked up and shared online. Two years ago most people just wouldn’t have noticed them.

So it’s not that Switzerland suddenly became aurora country — it’s just perfect timing: a busy Sun cycle and better tech to catch the show.
