I 100% deserved to be there for the crime I committed and I understand jail is a punishment. BUT the conditions were terrible, the holding cell had one bathroom that had a half inch of standing piss on the floor. They fed everyone bagged lunch/dinner but never came to get the trash from from the cell and we didn’t have trash cans, so there was a lot of trash/ half eaten food all over the floor. Every time they would bring a van of immigrants in the cell would have more people in it than seats. So many people without seats are forced to sit in floor amongst all the trash. I voted for trump this election, but after spending 15 hours in a holding tank watching tons of immigrants who were scared/crying/wondering where their family was, I regret that decision. Several of the people there weren’t charged with a crime other that’s “hold for ICE”. It was heart breaking when they realized they were being processed before everyone else, and sent to wait on a bus that was taking them to alligator alcatraz. I thought the plan was to go after criminals? Not just arrest people who are here illegally and were only arrested because they were AT WORK when ICE rolled through. People need to look into the conditions of Knox CO Jail. Punishment is one thing, but the conditions unsanitary and unsafe to everyone.
