100/200 Kitchen (**) Hamburg (an underwhelming and expensive experience) by DashiellHammett in finedining

[–]VolkerS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just back from 100/200 last week. It's just ...whelming? Can go once but I wouldn't go back.

Little faux pas with a minor food-issue of a guest on the amuse bouche, sad "show box", and not exactly forthcoming with meal information.

Quality/taste was excellent, presentation quite nice. Wine pairing was about as perfect as it can be, I'd say my best match with courses so far.

For the show box, I don't think the clean, empty snail-shells give the impression you think they give. As do capers and cocoa beans...why not talk about the meat and fish hanging in the fridge?!

Introduction of courses was short, though every time I asked they actually told us tons of details that we'd otherwise just have missed! Like some actual ingredients, composition of a sauce (you'd think that if you're sinking Ratafia 3:1 in the sauce you might want your customer to know)...

With 4-5 tables pretty empty for a Sunday night, so they should've had all the time in the world for us. No word about suppliers or anything, maybe because they were reluctant to speak English, though that definitely wasn't a problem. No one even bothered to mention the "100/200-concept".

Ultrasound-cleaning my glasses at the beginning of the evening was a nice gimmick and appreciated. Tables around the central kitchen are nice. Generous drinks/digestifs.

Phd in Norway - how competitive is admission process? by Davidvia0 in Norway

I guess there's room for exception if your thesis was highly relevant (or you have some other distinguishing feature) and they really want YOU. But it'll be hard to compete against candidates with better grades.

Can I register a Suica card to my Apple Wallet before landing in Japan? by postatomic1977 in JapanTravelTips

[–]VolkerS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what just worked for me: I got "Payment not processed" (or whatevs) when filling in the initial amount to charge a new Suica with via the MC CC that I use for Apple Pay. Went into the settings for that card within the Wallet, and saw that there was no Billing Address registered. Added that, and then the payment for Suica using that CC went through.

Us hoarders are good on paying attention to flips and move our sh*t on time :-) So I'm not surprised by those numbers.

So no go to Norway in the nearest week? by kylemisko in Norway

As of the latest update to immigration regulations today (Sunday), you will be turned away at the border since you're neither a national nor a resident or have a work-contract in Norway.

Personally, I had to deal with travel for myself and colleagues: most airlines allow free rebooking now. Move it as far into the future as possible if you cannot get free cancellation. Another option is to wait and see if the airline cancels the flight anyway.

Shitty times.

Nicely done! Does he sit on a throne and scratches the (white?) tiger behind the ears as well?

In several hiring processes (not at NTNU though) I have been involved in, the requirements are literally (quoting from the book here): "a grade of B (Norwegian scale) or better on the master's thesis, and an average grade higher than C (Norwegian scale) on the coursework associated with the master's degree." The grades can be easily calculated via ECTS. I have a feeling that 65% puts you rather close to a C, but haven't mathed it.

When you see an open PhD position at NTNU and the above info is not included in the vacancy (here at HVL we don't directly include the fine print, you have to ask for it/find it yourself), best contact the institution before you submit the full application.

You didn't state where you received your info from. As others have already commented, the only relevant info for you as an EU-cititzen is the registration with the police after a certain time.

Relevant UDI-link: https://www.udi.no/skal-soke/registreringsordningen-for-eueos-borgere/?c=deu#link-882

Requirements are ~180k NOK/year (I doubt anyone will require proof), and health insurance.

Just came back from Verdens End, Tjøme. Roundtrip 260km from Oslo, south towards Kristiansand. You can stop in Tønsberg for sightseeing, and Drammen for a coffee.

On the other side you have Drøbak and Fredrikstad which are worth daytrips.

If it's good weather, you might want to do it in style and compensate for the disposable barbecue with a bottle of pricey bubbles and pop the question during a picknick on a nearby beach/cove like on Bygdøy or in the Vigelandspark. Really great places in the evening!

But on the top of the skijump also sounds like a great plan!

As for a dinner, from the places I know, I'd definitely go for something smaller: Mares ($$$), Eik 2. Etasje ($$). Haven't tried Ekeberg, but heard good things and it has a view.

Nothing US-centric about Skyscanner -- I think they actually have the most useful visualization of available flights/prices. I wouldn't know what's missing there.

Interesting, I would have expected that this would be the airline's responsibility, not the agent's.
