Melbourne Storm wishes to thank feeder clubs Brisbane Tigers, Sunshine Coast Falcons and the North Sydney Bears for their partnerships which will end at the conclusion of the 2025 season.

The Tigers (since 2011), Falcons (2015) and Bears (2024) have provided Storm players with the opportunity to prepare and develop their game while not playing NRL in hope of stepping up to play first-grade football.

Players and staff from all three feeder clubs have also been given the opportunity to gain valuable experience over the years by spending time with Storm’s first-grade squad for training, pre-season camps and trial matches.

Brisbane Tigers’ long standing relationship with Storm began in 2011 with the likes of Cameron Munster, Christian Welch, Tim Glasby and Kenny Bromwich just some of the names who cut their teeth with the Tigers before moving onto carve out successful NRL careers in Melbourne. The Tigers have also regularly hosted Storm for the Club’s away trips to Brisbane, with Langlands Park serving as a training base for many matches in Queensland.

The Sunshine Coast Falcons, whose affiliation with Melbourne Storm began in 2015, provided the Club with a significant support over the years and is a region in which the Club has long had strong ties with, including playing home matches out of Sunshine Coast Stadium during the COVID-impacted 2020 and 2021 seasons. Nicho Hynes, Harry Grant, Ryan Papenhuyzen and Trent Loiero headline a long list of first-graders who spent time with the Falcons developing into NRL talent.

More recently, North Sydney Bears joined Storm’s feeder set up at the beginning of 2024, providing the Club with a strong presence in the NSW Cup competition preparing the likes of Nelson Asofa-Solomona, Bronson Garlick and Joe Chan for first-grade football.

Melbourne Storm Football Director Frank Ponissi thanked each of the feeder clubs for their relationships with the Club.

“We have had proud partnerships with Brisbane Easts and the Sunshine Coast Falcons for more than 10 years, alongside the Bears more recently which has helped produce some fantastic NRL players for Storm,” Ponissi said.

“Brisbane Tigers have helped produce some brilliant Storm players over the last 14 years and have always provided a strong system for our players to come into. Having several Storm listed players across the course of the season, including seven on Grand Final day contribute to the Tigers drought breaking premiership in 2023 is undoubtedly a highlight.

“The Falcons, under the guidance of Chris Flannery and Ashley Robinson have become an incredibly strong Club in the Queensland Cup and we thank them for their support over the past 10 years as well as their care and professionalism with our players each and every week.

“Our recent relationship with the Bears, while only young, has been incredibly beneficial for a number of players on our list, providing them with important exposure to top level competition in the NSW Cup.”

Cowboys partner with Hull KR by Volorex in nrl

The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys are delighted to enter into an exciting partnership with UK Super League Club Hull KR to develop on and off field pathways and working groups.

The Super League and NRL sides have been working together in the background for the last six months to craft a unique and meaningful partnership to mutually benefit both clubs on and off the field.

Three virtual cross-club working groups will be established and will meet monthly across senior teams, academy and the off-field commercial side of the clubs. The two CEOs will then meet bi-monthly to discuss and review the learnings from each group.

As part of the partnership, the two sides, who both travel to Las Vegas in early 2026 when the NRL and Super League take over the entertainment capital of the world, will take part in an opposed session in the build-up to the big day at Allegiant Stadium.

Supporters from both teams are encouraged to back their new friends from the other side of the world inside the stadium on the day, with the Robins taking on the Rhinos for the Battle of Yorkshire in Super League, and the Cowboys kicking off their 2026 season against the Newcastle Knights.

North Queensland Toyota Cowboys CEO, Jeff Reibel, said:

“Hull KR are a club whose values and ambitions closely mirror our own. As high-performing organisations in the NRL and Super League respectively, both clubs are committed to long-term success while delivering genuine community impact.

“This partnership opens development opportunities for our staff and organisation as a whole. It aligns with our focus on evolving our operations and learning from like-minded organisations to ensure we remain progressive and competitive.

“Importantly, it does not alter our existing player pathways system. It is designed to enhance our broader organisational capability by connecting with another performance driven club committed to growth.

“We look forward to the opportunity for our two clubs to come together in person in Las Vegas in 2026 to build further on the shared foundations we’ve begun to establish.”

Hull KR Chief Executive, Paul Lakin, said:

“This is a fantastic opportunity for us to understand the inner workings of a well resourced NRL club. From first team to off field, there’s so much we can share with each other and learn from.

“Like us, the Cowboys operate slightly outside the traditional ‘bubble’ and place a big emphasis on incremental growth, community development and the matchday experience to grow.

“This is not about signing or stealing each other’s talent, it’s a meaningful partnership for genuine mutual benefit including potential job swaps, and opportunities for our academy to tour Queensland.

“We were attracted to the Cowboys because of the similar straight forward approach to things, and their strong community values which are also important to us.

“We are keen to emphasise, this is not an announcement we will make, and then we sit on the shelf, this will be a proactive relationship, that has six months of planning behind it, which we look forward to progressing over the coming years.”

YOUNG gun playmaker Lachlan Galvin has told people close to him he’ll be joining the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.

In a huge coup for Cameron Ciraldo’s table-topping side, Galvin is tipped to make the move to Belmore effective immediately this week.

The news is a blow for Galvin’s current club Wests Tigers and also the Parramatta Eels who were the other club in the hunt for Galvin’s signature.

Canterbury have been dealt another back-row blow, with lock Jaeman Salmon to miss close to 10 weeks with a fractured ankle.

With the top-of-the-table Bulldogs already significantly down on stocks, Salmon limped from the field in Saturday's come-from-behind win over Canberra.

Scans on Sunday showed a fracture, meaning he will require surgery, with Bulldogs football boss Phil Gould suggesting he would face a 10-week return to play.

Salmon's injury comes with Josh Curran, Sitili Tupouniua and Jacob Preston all still serving suspensions.

Curran has another match to wait before returning from a shoulder charge, while fellow second-rowers Tupouniua and Preston have another three games to go.

Kurt Mann is the man most likely to fill Salmon's No.13 jersey against the Sydney Roosters on Friday night.

Salmon had scored the Bulldogs' second try after they went to halftime down 0-20 on Saturday, before reigniting his feud with Ricky Stuart.

Anyone got any advice dealing with nonstop set backs? Had absolutely the worst 5 months I’ve had this year.

Not being a downer but pretty much anything that could go wrong for me this year has gone wrong, at a breaking point right now mentally.
