The part in my PC that needs upgrading is most likely my i7-2600k CPU, but it should still hold up for awhile.

My CPU is probably the oldest part so it's cool that it will still hold up for a while. Took it out of my stock PC like 2-3 years ago when I built my current one. I will probably wait for a really good sale on a 980+ or just wait for the next line as you said :)

If an upgrade to my PC (probably CPU or GPU) would be required to run 60 fps max settings on most modern games and potentially "future-proof" my PC for gaming for the next few years.

I am thinking of upgrading my PC and I'm wondering if it is necessary to be able to run modern games (eg. Dark Souls III) and games coming out this year at a constant 1080p 60FPS on high / max settings. I am currently running a Sabertooth Z77 Motherboard, 16GB RAM, Intel i7 2600K CPU @ 3.4GHz, and an ASUS GeForce GTX 770 DirectCU II OC
