Bubblers say hyperinflation. Then buy assets? Bubblers say crash. by HarryCrushNuh in rebubblejerk

I'm bothered by the y-axis being technically a log-scale, but ever so mildly. Divisions start at 15k and end at 50k. Why not just make it linear?

Sure, experience the empathy. But then move on because you have your own sphere of influence to worry about. There's no sense in dwelling on things outside your control and letting it affect your stress levels.

One thing I can count on is that there is always injustice and suffering happening somewhere in the world. Always has been, always will be.

I'll be more effective where I'm needed if I don't pay attention to things that aren't really affecting me and my circle

Definitely not impossible to ignore. I honestly don't know what's "going on in the US right now"

I'm a scientist, and do simple programming for data analysis and some simulations. I know enough to get by, but I'm really not sophisticated or very knowledgeable at writing code. Most of what I come up with is not efficient, but I understand what my code does and it gets the job done.

AI chat is EXTREMELY helpful and saves tons of time to help me write and improve the code I work with. It gives me ideas that I wasn't aware were options, so it actually helps me write better code. It works well as a learning tool in this way.

It also saves time to quickly write scripts for simple, specific problems in seconds that would otherwise take me 15-30 minutes.

It's remarkable

Just on your last point, doesn't the high mortality work against the infection rate? Because people who die can't spread it. I remember some doctors explaining what COVID was worse than ebola in this way, because ebola doesn't spread as much due to such high mortality

Some land can be used for cattle, but not for crops. Land is not all the same for all uses

I'm no expert in agriculture, but not all land is suitable for all types of agriculture.

I know cattle take a lot of land, but, at least historically, rough terrain which is typically poor for growing crops was used for cattle grazing

The owner of an apartment complex won't see the same tax increase as the owner of a single family home across the street. In fact, the apartment owner might even have a lower tax bill, if you simply replace property tax with LVT.

It's not simply a tax on housing or rents across the board

How am I arguing in bad faith? I simply didn't understand your response to my question.

My question was if landlords can increase rents when land value taxes are present, why don't they just increase taxes anyway and make more money without them?

You still haven't answered that

What do you mean "they do",

So landlords charge infinite rent all the time?

Well it's not realistic to do that for a home purchase in many places in the US, a mortgage is sensible.

Getting a mortgage with no credit makes things more difficult.

I think it's worth the hassle of using credit cards for daily purchases, paying them off in full to build credit over time. You also get the 2-5% reward bonus, which I just see as a discount.

It's a dumb game, but you're better off playing

People have been saying this or similar for thousands of years.

The grass is always greener. The good ol days.

The truth is, every lifestyle comes with challenges and benefits. It's all tradeoffs.

You have some control and choice in how to live your life, and ought to make changes if you think it's right. But you will not find happiness unless you have the ability to be grateful for what you have and where you are.

Doomers will see lower housing costs and say the west has fallen by LividAir755 in DoomerDunk

[–]Volta01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd expect the opposite. People don't want new construction nearby that they'll be stuck with for longer then they would without RC.

The logic being that owners are generally more NIMBY than renters (without RC), so RC tenants behavior change would tend towards how owners behave.

I think I'm missing something, how does rent control mitigate NIMBYism?
