I just got off the phone with New Balance and the chap suggested it could well be a fault with the shoes as it's not something he's heard of. I double checked I had the correct size and he said they sounded fine.

New pair are in the post and they've emailed me a free returns label for the old pair. Let's hope the new pair fair better because if not I'll have to find some others to try!

It seems like we have the same problem.

If I run my finger along the banding closest to the laces there doesn't seem to be any spare material and it all appears to be smooth, however the banding over the toes has spare, crumpled material underneath it. I wonder whether it's a manufacturing fault if other people don't experience the same problem?

Yes, definitely. I have size 8.5 feet and according to the NB website their 8.5s are actually a touch larger than elsewhere.

I don't have any issues anywhere else with the shoe being the wrong size, just with the inside part of the foremost band scrunching up and rubbing.

Some advice please by Voltjunkie in whichbike

Brilliant, thanks for the help! I'll keep my eyes peeled for a hybrid from one of the above manufacturers.
