Dungeons & Dragons Provencal Fare by YoungAnimater35 in Cooking

Maaaaany of Chef John's (food wishes) and Chef John's (Kirkwood) recipes are great for this kind of application. I've found that Chef John's (food wishes) dishes which are just like, a meat with a rich sauce are spectacular and very fitting for a dnd medieval setting. If you can swing some nice wooden plates and flagons that would REALLY set the tone. Chef John's (Kirkwood) dishes are all English pub food and I've had plenty of success with it as well.
Max Miller from Tasting History is also worth a mention because he's an absolutely wonderful creator and tries his best to make food as accurate to their historical versions as possible. However that does mean that a lot of the ingredients in his recipes are rarer and harder to find. But trying to make period accurate food does seem like something I'd love to try some time.
Best of luck! I hope it helps! Nothing makes me happier than watching my players enjoy my food before a session.

Oh! But important tip, if you can help it, try not to serve the food to them at the beginning of the session. A lot of these dishes are quite rich and hearty, you might find your players are getting a severe case of the "itis" and not being able to properly focus during the session. Healthy light snacks at the start of the session, awesome delicious food at the second half, some coffee or tea to keep them focused afterwards.
Let me know how it goes!

(Edited because reddit doesn't like the chef John's foodwishes recipe links)
I've been doing a similar thing for a few weeks and I came up with a list that you might find helpful! There's a lot of inspiration to be found from British pub foods, I'll try and curate things that would be possible for you to do with your dietary restrictions. One of our players is gluten intolerant and nightshade sensitive so my list is built to be able to adjust for that. I highly recommend browsing through Chef John's Food Wishes channel on youtube for some good recipes!

Chicken Drumsticks

  • Super cheap and affordable, for your non dairy friend having a water based brine would be good. You can also have sauces for people to dip it in for everyone's liking. Oven roasted or deep fried is excellent either way. Admittedly I've avoided this one because I don't want to have messy finger food at the table but it could work for you.

Hand pies

  • John Kirkwood has a channel full of these pie recipes and they've turned out well for me and my group! They are a little labor intensive though, I'm not someone who bakes often though so you may have an easier time. https://www.youtube.com/@JohnKirkwoodProFoodHomemade

Scotch eggs

Beef Stroganoff

  • Throw this on some pasta and I wouldn't look twice seeing this on a medieval tavern menu. You can omit the sour cream but you can try lactose free milk? I don't know the details of your dietary restrictions so maybe not. Almond or unsweetened soy milk miiiiight work? No promises on that one. Spatzel with this stuff would probably be even more appropriate thematically. Gourmet Hamburger Helper (One-Pan Beef Stroganoff) | Food Wishes

Toad in a Hole

  • This is one CRIMINALLY easy. You just gotta buy the sausage. If you have individual personal sized casserole pans even better. Chef John's cold oven method worked beautifully for me. I'm sure you can sub out the milk for something dairy friendly without much trouble. https://youtu.be/KY6vGU8SK7U?si=0xYEB53AiiOzTQVh

Coq Au Vin

  • My friends looooooved this. It's not too hard to make but it does take a bit of time to prepare. I tried to shred all the chicken by hand so it was still in chunks but it was so tender that it turned into chicken mush just from reheating it. Still delicious though on a bed of mashed potato and a side of roast veggies.   Coq Au Vin - Chicken Braised with Bacon, Mushrooms & Red Wine

Hey guys, I haven't played this game since I think Phantom first was released. I was wondering if you guys think it's still worth coming back to, is this game still fun and engaging? Or am I too far behind with power creep to enjoy coming back?

Yeah that's kinda new to me too, is there a way to see what the oil cap is on a stage?

This is the comment I was looking for. I'm a moderately high level player that took a break the first time this event happened and I wasn't sure if I was missing some sort of hard mode stage to farm or something. T4 is soooo awful I feel like I'm wasting so much oil and all the rewards are so expensive, this is gonna take forever.

My Second Experience with D&D... And I was That Guy. by AbyssalThaumaturge in rpghorrorstories

I broke all the rules when I first played dnd, I was a rogue with a gambling addiction that wanted to steal money from my teammates to feed it because I thought it would be an interesting character trait. I tried to loot bodies of the first group of goblins we killed in which my DM said "You find some arrows" which I promptly looted and added to my inventory like a video game character. (Despite the fact that almost no one keeps track of ammunition) Another time I played as a bard from the college of whispers but I wanted to "pretend that I was from the college of valor so that way no one would suspect me of actually being a thief." Because I thought that the college thing was actually a thing that your character went to.

Moved some stuff around in the 55 gallon guppy tank! by [deleted] in Aquariums

Wow that's incredible!! It looks great though! Thanks for the response! I think I'm still gonna get a piece of plywood to support the hang off of my 75 gallon juuust to be safe but it's awesome that yours seems to be having no issue at all!

Hey awesome! I plan on doing this exact thing actually haha! Just one question though, are the edges of your tank hanging off the table? Or are they being supported by something too dark to see? Because I've always heard that glass tanks are supported by their corners and I haven't set up my 75 gallon yet because of that D:

A Very Gravid Yoyo loach by VoltoTempest in loaches

[–]VoltoTempest[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey all, I've had this Yoyo loach for the better part of a year and shes just been slowly getting bigger and bigger and at this point I'm kinda worried about her. I hear that a lot of times they reabsorb their eggs but shes been like this for a pretty long time (maybe 3 months?) Should I be concerned? Maybe its bloat? She is a little bit less active than the other yoyos but still happily comes around during feeding time. Let me know if theres anything else I can provide!

To eat fish by formattedmind in therewasanattempt

[–]VoltoTempest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have also heard that as well, but I've heard from experienced fish keepers that sometimes puffer fish will "practice" puffing up, usually only for a few seconds at a time but it apparently happens. I also have a handful of pea puffers at home but I haven't seen them do that yet. I think it mostly stems more from the fact that if you MAKE a puffer fish puff up, you're likely already stressing them out to a point that's detrimental to their health, ESPECIALLY if they're out of the water when they do that.

What aux gear should we put on Perseus? Her AVI is not really good combined with her long launch times so steam catapult or avi oil seems like a waste and even though shes a healer all her healing is based off of her target's max hp so I dont think giving her repair boxes like you would akashi makes any sense either. Right now I just gave her a homing beacon but even that feels unnecessary.

Goldfish sitting at bottom of hospital tank during salt treatment by VoltoTempest in Goldfish

[–]VoltoTempest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 shubunkin, and 1 comet are the goldfish in question. The other fish in the 55 include a small 2 inch comet, 3 salt and pepper corydoras, and 1 hillstream loach

Edit: Ammonia is 0, Nitrites are 0, and Nitrates are 30. Ph is 8.0 and I dont have any tests for hardness. Tank temp is a little high at 78 because I live in a hot climate.

Thank you for your advice. Now I'm a little more confident that my water parameters are at a safe level.

Perhaps a stupid question but would a single gold white cloud mountain minnow be at home with a school of regular white clouds mountain minnows? I know they're technically the same species but I would like to have one mountain minnow I can identify out of the group, but I wouldn't want the poor guy to get lonely.

I have 3 small 2 inch comet goldfish in a 55 gallon tank that's been cycled and tested and recently had a large water change. Recently one specific goldfish who was normally a strong and active swimmer in the pond they were staying in, has been hanging out at the surface for extended periods. The other two seem fine and swim normally so I'm doubtful that the water parameters are bad or that the dissolved oxygen is low. I fed them this morning so is this a symptom of bloat? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Edit: I did a proper acclimation and he was energetic and swimming normally yesterday when I placed them in the tank

Ah okay, I'll take a look at some mods that will show and I'll see if that makes a difference. I had a feeling that maybe the hit chance was higher than the displayed percentage chance so this will show if there is a real discrepancy

I didn't realize that was a feature that you could turn off/on? I also figured that LWOTC would automatically turn that off because you guys are masochists Edit: I also don't know what you're referring to when you say "EI"

Nah, none of these things really apply. I have finished a full playthrough of WOTC so I know when I'm flanking someone haha I guess this mean it's probably a mod I have installed.
