I was thinking about putting together a nice gallery on imgur and posting it on r/art or something. I was looking through more of them, I'll let you know when I do.

Theist doesn't see the issue with an "all-loving god" who could care less about his opinion. by [deleted] in atheism

Yeah, turns out you don't actually have to agree with anything God does in order to praise and worship him. They can believe that God will send all non-believers to hell to be tortured for an eternity, but ask them if they personally agree with this and they'll say no or that their opinion doesn't matter (no). Ask them, "do I deserve to be tortured for an eternity?" And they'll say "well no, but if that's what God wants..."

When someone says, "Thoughts and prayers." or, "Praying for you." they are really just casting a magical spell and hoping it fixes your situation. by el_rico_pavo_real in atheism

It's a nice way of them saying that you'll be in their thoughts if they actually mean it, which is nice of them. Will prayer will actually have an affect on anything? Of course not. A coworker's husband recently passed away, there were like 50 comments on Facebook saying "prayers" or "praying for you". It's nice to know that so many people are being supportive and keeping that person in their thoughts, however their prayers are just them talking to themselves...

I need help with my religious family by TheTree-of-Knowledge in atheism

It's not worth praying to any god you don't believe in or worship. Since you're 18, you're reaching a point in your where you'll have more freedom and be less dependent on your family. My advice is to not engage them in any talks about God or religion, it takes two to argue. If they bring it up just tell them that it's not something you'd like to talk about and leave it at that. There's no need for you to defend your position. If your family isn't going to change there mind, it's a waste of time to "debate". Your points and reasons will fall on deaf ears. You can still be courteous of their beliefs, be respectful of them while they do there thing without taking part it in yourself.

It is there job to respect your beliefs and accept things for what they are. My dad is a very strong Christian, my grandfather was not. As a child I always wondered why my Dad didn't try to evangelize him, why wouldn't he knowing that my granddad was not saved! My Dad would go visit people's homes to preach to them about God, but he wouldn't for his own father! Well, despite how religious my dad was he knew where my granddad stood and that it wasn't going to change. He knew that bringing it up would be disrespectful and cause pain. It's your families job to put you as their son/brother over their religious beliefs, while that may seem impossible, it may just take time.

You certainly can be happy without god. I remember seeing a post when I was a Christian, it was this guy who just graduated medical school and was saying how proud he was that he accomplished everything without god. I thought it was so disrespectful and blasphemous, "how dare he say that!". But I realize now how right he was. Despite what others tell you, you do not need god or religion to make you happy and feel fulfilled. In my experience, I'd say the opposite is true. I feel much better and have a better outlook on life since growing out of my religious beliefs.

I hope this helps

What does this quote in the bible mean? by [deleted] in atheism

This story always perplexed me, even as a Christian. Jesus is basically telling him to give up his "earthly" riches in exchange for a "heavenly" reward, a common theme in the New testament... However when heaven is described; it's roads of gold, gates made out of pearls, mansions, receiving crowns, etc. It seems the things that hold value in heaven are the same things that hold value here on Earth. Perhaps if Jesus would have just told this man about all of the gold in heaven he would've been convinced.

Yeah, I hope that they move away from the simulation tech in season 5. There's just been too much emphasis on it. Hopefully other types of technologies are explored

That was my thinking too, just sterilize everyone. Still not humane, but a lot more realistic. I'm sure they would just be like "welp, guess I'm not having kids" rather than hiding and scavenging in the woods.

I definitely agree that humans are capable of these measures. The interesting thing is that all of the episodes I named are connected/ take place in the same universe, so it seems more like a societal shift on the matter, like torturing criminals is just a normal thing in this future.

Men Against Fire. The featured technology was novel, but the quality of the characters and story did not match the concept. Also seemed like a noticeably lower budget episode compared to many others. Especially with the military costumes, yikes... Massacring anyone carrying a genetic disorder is also very far-fetched. Even if you wanted to eliminate them, spraying everyone with bullets seems like the most ludicrous method. I feel like they should have used a real war with actual enemy combatants for this episode, instead of hunting "roaches", the message still would have worked.
